Should this product burn after applying it?

No way-this is the best stuff ever! I've used it for years. You should try the Aint Misbehavin Moisturizer too. Fantastic products. I would skip the Aint Misbehavin cleanser if you are worried about sensitivity but definitely try the serum and the moisturizer!!!!!

Is this product like a cream or gel? How does it wear under make-up?

It's more like a gel. I have never worn it under make-up, but as long as you apply it on the skin for a few minutes before applying your make-up, you should be fine.
