Melatonin puts me TO sleep, but does nothing for KEEPING me asleep, which I think is its intent. According to the latest publication from Consumer Reports, the "JURY IS STILL OUT" explaining that there's simply not enough proof that supplements of this sleep-regulating hormone work for chronic insomnia, according to the AASM (American Academy of Sleep Medicine). But it may have benefits for certain other issues, such as jet lag or other uncommon sleep disorders, but hasn't been shown to help you get a better night's sleep.I have taken Melatonin since I was a teenager - now 37, a mom of an 11-year old know it all and superb wife of Harry, I need to fall asleep when its time. 5AM comes early - and this helps me to keep with my ideal bedtime. We all learn, as we're getting older, the importance of sleep and this helps me come closer to the standard. I would start with 1MG, and work from there. I have been on it for a couple decades, now, and have worked myself up to a couple of 5MG, but realize at times that I don't even need that, or sometimes need a dose more - its a good dose to keep on hand - no reason for anything more, aside from looking into further intervention for your sleep issues. BUT GET HELP! SLEEP IS VITAL!
