Great overview of a number of classic pen & ink illustrators
I saw other reviews complaining of the printing quality... but they don't seem to realize the publisher didn't have access to original art, but to old, yellowed and sometimes printed small, book and magazine illustrations and clippings. Some of the sources may have even been second or third generation printings... so I'd cut them some slack for trying to include as much as they could, even if the sources were limited. It might have looked better on slick paper, but there are other books on many of the individual artists featured that are like that and I appreciate this broader book keeping itself affordable and accessible.I've read many books on classic pen & ink illustration and saw a few pieces here I'd never seen before. There are a few artists who were left out... and would have liked to see more work of the ones included who don't have books dedicated to their individual work, but any book of this nature is going to feel like it leaves out something... It's a starting place...This is a good book. Highly recommended.

In Defense of the Print Quality...
Yes, the 1-Star reviews have a point. Most of the images in here are affected by the "dot-screen" through which they have been filtered, and a number of them (like the JC Coll and Franklin Booth illustrations) have been reproduced much better elsewhere. BUT...The collection is marvelous. The choices of what to include out of the countless thousands of options was, in my opinion, well chosen. And most of the reproductions, flawed as they are, are not that bad. The paper, though not slick, hardly damages the pictures. They lack hi-res detail, but they are carefully processed so that apart from razor-sharp lines, they look quite good! For a student working on the craft, there is little to be lost for the lessons you will get from these lines, and no loss at all for the lessons on form and composition. This book is very worth the cost. If you love some of the images in it, seek them out to zoom into the small parts and see the lines in their crispness.

Amazing resource
If you are wanting a book to do master studies, especially for pen and ink, this is for you.

A DECENT BOOK
This book does not have everything. However it has enough to give you a good idea of what these artists did with pen and ink. That's enough in for me.

SHODDY: Poor reproduction, no insights
As another noted, the reproduction of the pen and ink work is muddy, with digital artifacts and "jaggies." Not a clear, rich, solid black line to be found throughout, sadly. Appears to be the scans of an amateur, and sadly little better than looking at such images on the web. Also there's no real contextual writing or evaluation, no biographical information, no scholarship of any sort. A quickie production, produced and sold for cheap, like the other Redcrest Publishing books I’ve seen.

this is print on demand
horrible reproduction of the prints... cheap paper, the black is not black.... this is an awful way to reproduce art and it is unusable for reference/education/study.
