Laurence Juber's DADGAD Solos

I recommend all of Juber's books to intermediate/advanced guitarists
I recommend all of Juber's books to intermediate/advanced guitarists. His arrangements of well-known songs are a kick to learn from. He provides note-by-note transcriptions of verse and chorus. Some of the material will be a challenge to intermediate players (like me), but you don't need to copy every note and who cares if you're never going to play a 5-fret fingering position!I am a bit disappointed in the accompanying CD's. At least on the ones I've listened to he doesn't play the songs, only a few measures with brief verbal comments. So sometimes it takes awhile to figure out what certain passages are supposed to sound like. That being said, these are terrific books and I'm grateful that he's made them available to other guitarists.

Content is 5 stars, printing 1 star.
LJ is one of the greats, and the content contained in DADGAD Solos is great. It sounds to me like a near note for note score of some of his best pieces taken primarily from Under an Indigo Sky. You'll learn great technique and voicing just by following his score and listening closely to his CD. So why just 3 stars? Because the book printing is crappy. You'll have to decipher the TAB with a magnifying glass and a flashlight unless you are a good music sight-reader... as many of us are not. I hope either LJ or the publisher reads this review and makes a readable edition with legible type fonts. That said, I love the book and secretly hope they fire the twenty year old graphic artist who said " but it's such a cool typeface."

Better yet, a DVD would be fantastic
The only thing missing is a copy, or at least a link to access, the songs. Better yet, a DVD would be fantastic.

Great collection of masterfully arranged songs
Great collection of masterfully arranged songs! Laurence Juber's tablature is clear and easy to follow. That said, LJ is one of the most talented acoustic guitarists in the world, so his arrangements are not easy. With challenging bar chords and fret spans and rhythms, they take time to work through, but it's fun and it's time well spent. In this book, I especially love his arrangements of Runaway and Sitting on the Dock of the Bay. It's surprising that there are so few reviewers for his outstanding arrangements. Thank you to LJ for publishing these!

Not for beginners
I'd put myself at intermediate level and I find these pieces challenging. Having said that if you master a few pieces it will be well worth the effort. As you'd expect from Laurence Juber the tabs and "dots" follow Laurence's recordings closely. It might be worth finding Laurence on YouTube to watch his fingering of these pieces as an aid to study.

Delightful DADGAD
Superb instrumental arrangements by Lawrence Juber of jazz standards and classic pop songs in the acoustic alternative tuning of DADGAD incorporating great bass lines with interesting chords and great solos.

Worthwhile purchase
Great tunes and certainly well tabbed out. Definitely worth putting in the effort to play these selections, not really suitable if you're starting out.Recommend!
