Decent battery
Update: I am adding an update and now giving it a full 5 stars (up from 3). I had originally been concerned about having to charge them so often. I wasn't sure if it was the batteries or what I was using them in, since I got them for motion sensitive lights. Customer service contacted me right away wanting to make sure I was happy with the product and see if they could help with my issue. Since I have gotten such great customer service, I am giving them 5 stars and going to try to use them with lights in a less high traffic area.I like them because they are rechargeable, but it seems like I am always having to charge them. Maybe they are not lasting as long because I have them in the kitchen where they are coming on a lot. They work great and I love the extra light. Easy to charge and use.

Great bargain
This is the second set of these batteries we’ve ordered in the past couple of years. They seemed to keep there charge for along time, usually most of the night for our stair lights. We use them for our solar lights outdoors. Reasonable price. Would buy again.

The size fits well. They’re very durable. They work as they should. They’re easy to charge with my smart charger. My only complaint is that they do not hold a charge while sitting over long periods of time.

Initial tests for backpacking were great. Time will tell for overall longevity.
Modern backpackers have to not only manage their physical energy budget, but their device energy budget as well, and every ounce counts. Your phone, headlamp, earbuds, perhaps dedicated GPS device, etc. all eat up power. For a weekend trip, that isn't a big deal. Just manage your power consumption, maybe carry a small power pack, and you can always recharge everything on the trip home. But for long-term trips, it isn't practical to carry lots of spare batteries, but the risks from having batteries fail in critical applications like light and navigation can be unacceptably high without them. This is compounded by the fact that I enjoy hiking into the evening, partly because it is cooler in the summer, and partly because the days are so short in the winter.I had used NiMH batteries for a while many years ago, but the high self-discharge rate (1-3% per DAY) and a few weak batteries bit me too often, so I finally went back to alkaline batteries and carrying enough spares. However, I still had excellent NiMH chargers that weren't being used and the new low self-discharge technology was intriguing and seemed to have matured to the point that multiple manufacturers could offer it at decent prices.After buying an eight-pack of the PowerOwl batteries, I wanted to make a less-subjective comparison among my three options - AAA generic alkaline, name-brand alkaline, and PowerOwl NiMH. To measure discharge rate, I used my backpacking headlamp. It is a Coast FL75 running at medium intensity white light and maximum beam dispersal. I hung the lamp 44" from the floor and measured the brightness at floor level using a lux meter app on my phone. This is a fairly harsh test of battery life, but I'm assuming night hiking where I would use those settings for the best balance of battery life and trail visibility.As the graph shows, the generic alkaline battery fared the worst, with only about .5 hour of hiking time and only slightly more usable time. The Duracell provided about .8 hour of hiking time and another 10-15 minutes of usable time. The PowerOwl (after initial full charge) was by far the brightest for the longest time, with almost 1.5 hours of hiking time, and another 10-15 minutes of usable time. When the fact that NiMH batteries do best after a few discharge/charge cycles is factored in, I might be able to get up to two hours of night hiking time with the PowerOwl batteries, which is a major improvement.Obviously, I haven't been able to see how well these do after sitting charged for months, how many charge-discharge cycles they have before their capacity drops too much, or even how the batteries hold up over the years, but for now, this is my go-to solution for backpacking batteries.I'm supplementing the batteries with a very small/light USB-powered NiMH charger I can combine with my tiny USB charger so I can get everything recharged at a hostel or hotel overnight between back-to-back trail section-hikes. With the low-discharge rate, I'll buy and test the AA batteries in computer pointing devices and such. It'll be good to go back to a less wasteful solution for portable power needs.
