Keeps in what needs to be kept in. :)
Oh, the Amazon Essentials Men's Slim-Fit Short-Sleeve Crewneck T-Shirts have turned my husband into a walking billboard for comfort and style! We practically have to pry these shirts off his back to get them in the wash because he loves them so much. I'm starting to think he might be developing a bit of a "T-shirt addiction." He walks around the house wearing them, struts his stuff when he's out and about, and even sleeps in them. If he could, he'd probably wear them to formal events and weddings too! But jokes aside, these shirts are the real deal. The slim fit is just right, making him look like a movie star without the Hollywood price tag. And the best part? They're so affordable that we can buy them in every color imaginable, and he's started a T-shirt rainbow in his wardrobe. In all seriousness, though, these Amazon Essentials T-shirts have become his go-to for everyday wear, and I can't blame him. They're comfortable, stylish, and budget-friendly, making them an unbeatable combo. If you want your man to feel like he's wearing a shirt made of marshmallows while looking like he's ready to walk the runway, these are the way to go. They've turned my husband into a T-shirt enthusiast, and I have to say, I'm not complaining!

Slim Fit not Snug fit
I ordered a two-pack of these Slim Fit t-shirts and a two-pack of the Regular Fit t-shirts to compare and contrast. Both styles are made of the same thick cotton knit fabric, which is soft and substantial, but the fits are definitely different. These Slim Fit shirts are significantly tighter fitting in the stomach, arms, and chest area(s). The Regular Fit shirts are much looser in all three of these areas, especially the arms. Compared to a Regular Fit I would categorize these as a Slim Fit not, a Snug Fit; they fit close to the body but not tightly enough to show something like muscle definition, if that's what you're looking for. For comparison, I would say that these Amazon Essentials Slim Fit t-shirts are tighter fitting than a standard Gap or Old Navy t-shirt fit but looser fitting than a standard American Apparel or H&M t-shirt fit. Overall the quality is nice, with minimal fading and only very minor shrinkage after laundering in cold water and putting in a medium dryer. Recommended if you like a close fitting, thick cotton t-shirt.

Not as good as the Russell Athletic Pocket Tee but close, slightly off proportions, I bought more.
I've been purchasing and wearing Russell Athletic Pocket Tee shirts for many years. They're comfortable, they look good, the fit was right in every way. I needed some replacement tees early this year and couldn't find any of the Russells except at truly exorbitant prices and never in my size. I tried a couple of different shirts and was unhappy with them all, they were all the same price or higher as what I used to pay for Russells but the quality wasn't as good and the fit was never quite right. I read the reviews here, especially the review by "Shea" who favorably compared this Amazon Essentials-brand pocket tee to the Russell. So I bought a couple to try them out. They look good, are comfortable, the pocket is fine, construction looks good. The length of the sleeves is perfect, fit around chest and gut are perfect; but the collar is wider and the tails are longer than the Russells, these shirts could lose 2 inches from the tails (the length of the waist) and at least 1 inch of circumference around the neck. Maybe I should try one size smaller? Maybe but I'm afraid the sleeve length would be too short for me. They wash up well and dry in the dryer without trouble (unlike some other shirts I tried which took forever to dry). They seem to be shedding a lot of lint in the dryer, though – I hope that doesn't mean they are going to wear out fast. So: As good as my Russells? No. Better than any other short-sleeve pocket tee in this price range that I've tried? Yes. And since the Russells seem to be gone for good, I bought more of these shirts. They're not perfect but I guess they just don't make 'em like they used to, or in the case of the Russell Athletic Pocket Tee, they don't make 'em at all anymore.

The Essential Facts
All I wear is tee shirts. Okay, to be clear, I usually wear pants - shorts to be precise. I’m not a button down kind of guy. I wear tees from morning to night and sometimes all night, so I wear them out pretty fast. So I’m always here buying more, usually six at a time. I can’t see spending fifty bucks for one brand name shirt when I can get Amazon Essentials that are made in the same factories for a fraction of the price. But the pre-selected sixpacks almost always end up with one or even two colors I don’t want. THE ESSENTIAL SECRET Did you know that there are more than just one selection of their store brand shirts? They don’t make the subtle differences exactly clear so I had to filter by several factors to get a side by side comparison and even then sometimes a shirt of a different color or size can be made in an entirely different factory or even country for that matter. I narrowed it down to three listings, all called Essentials and all so similar it takes some effort to see how they are different. Pocket or no pocket? Moisture wicking or not? Slim fit or regular? Things like that. Most selections came in packs of two. And for a reason I will never understand, if I picked one color they were unbelievably inexpensive but another shade could be as much as double the price. THE REALITY So they all fit me about the same, yes the slim fit was slightly snugger than the regular but not by much. But here’s the thing that they don’t mention anywhere yet it is extremely important- some of the shirts were as much as three inches shorter than some others, or was it the other way around? This can spell the difference between a display of crack or not with some of my jeans. YES NO MAYBE Of the 3 sets of tees I chose, all from different listings of the same brand these were All I wear is tee shirts. Okay, to be clear, I usually wear pants - shorts to be precise. Be aware - two different shirts, two different fits
What do I mean? To put it simply, these shirts come in a wide variety of colors and styles, but are made of different materials: either 100% cotton or cotton/poly blend (heather). One of these you should embrace with your whole heart, and the other should be avoided at all costs. Let me explain. First off, I'll just say I'm tall and lanky, so this is just my review for how the shirts fit me. But I generally wear a large or medium, and most shirts fit me just fine. I have purchased several of these two-pack Amazon brand shirts and I can say pretty solidly that the soft, heather versions of the shirt all fit great. Slim fit, but not "skin-tight" fit. The bottom hem hits below the waist but not below the butt (at least on me.) Very comfy. Decent cut. Nice room in the shoulders. I wear them all the time. I own the dark gray, light gray, orange, and navy blue versions of these heather shirts. HOWEVER. The all-cotton version of these shirts are pretty miserable. The material is stiff and somewhat thick. The cut is terrible. It is simultaneously too tight in the shoulders but baggy around your neck. It bunches up under your arms uncomfortably. Poorly made. I only wear these shirts around the house. When I tried it on for the first time, my wife literally said, "What's wrong with the neck and shoulders of that shirt?" So to summarize: heather version of these shirts are great, especially for the price point. 100% cotton version should not be worn by anyone in my opinion.

Not As Slim As You Might Expect
As someone who's pushing 6'3" and 175lbs (most of that being around the mid-region), I was really debating between getting this shirt in large or the regular/loose fit in a medium. So I got both! And if I'm being honest, there wasn't very much of a difference. While this shirt in a medium (which I also bought) did feel tight, the large met with my broad shoulders perfectly and didn't get too slim as it went down along my chest and stomach (though the advertising photo makes it look like it totally just becomes a "V" towards the crotch). The regular-fit medium had a very similar fit, but was about a half inch shorter in vertical length and an inch shorter across the shoulders. Though it didn't slim as it went down like the slim-fit large, it's already shorter width made it feel like a tighter fit. Weird, right?? I tried on both shirts again and again, both before and after a single wash/dry, trying to point out all the differences before I came here to write about it here. All in all, I'm probably going to keep the slim-fit large as it actually has the shoulder length I like while not staying that length all the way down and giving off a total box-y fit. The slim-fit medium was just too small and the regular-fit medium was just a little too narrow, though I believe a regular-fit large would probably be too wide. One complaint of all the shirts that I'll have is that after a wash/dry, the hems at the bottom of the shirt did begin to curl up a bit, which is disappointing because it looks cheap (which I know it is, but other people don't). But other than that, I didn't detect any shrinkage and that's a huge plus given the price.

Fantastic cheap shirts
My whole upper-body wardrobe is solid or minimally-patterned shirts and sweaters. A while back Target had a brand of solid color slim-fit shirts that I loved, both for their fit and price. They were discontinued and since then I've struggled to find an alternative. Some people recommended a brand that charged something like $30/shirt, which I balked at given they were just solid color cotton shirts! These shirts are not only the lowest price I've seen, but they fit great. The material is a little stiff the first few washes and thus is prone to wrinkling and doesn't feel super soft, but after they're broken in they're great. (It's a little unfair comparison with my remaining super old Target shirts that have probably been through 70+ washes each!) I've already bought several, and I'm tempted to buy a bunch more in case they change vendors/manufacturing--super common with "basic" items like this--or just discontinue them altogether.

Slim fit as advertised
I bought the large, slim-fit, dark navy, 100% cotton t-shirts. Considering the price, I am pleasantly surprised at the quality. The fabric is soft and a good thickness. Stitching is good. Most importantly for me, they are indeed slim-fit. I am 5'11" and around 200 lbs, with relatively broad shoulders and a narrow torso. The shirts conform very well to my body. With my arms down at my sides, there is a decent gap between my arms and the fabric, which highlights the good fit. These particular shirts are 100% cotton, so they did shrink after the first wash, but nothing excessive. It is probably a good idea to buy one size larger than usual to account for shrinkage. Overall, a great purchase. I'll definitely buy more to replace my old worn out shirts.
