It's a Miracle!
This is the real deal! After many attempts to find a bird feeder that squirrel and large birds like common grackle can not get into- Eureka! this is perfect. The grackle tried for about 2 weeks and have finally given up. The squirrel tried a few times but also gave up. The feeder has been up for 4 weeks now and it is perfect if small birds is what you want to feed. Chickadees, house finches, Tufted titmice and goldfinches are in heaven. They are eating and not getting chased away by bigger birds. Some figure it out right away some take a few days. PERFECT It seemed a little pricey, but it is worth it. It is very well made. Should last a long time. I do recommend securing the lid. I just used a rubber band.

My boyfriend loves
I got my boyfriend this bird cage and he loves it. It is definitely squirrel proof, but more importantly in our case, it is secured from blue jays. Blue jays are beautiful, but also bullies to the smaller birds. We had a blue jay issue where every time the smaller birds wanted to eat, the blue jay dived right into them and scared the small birds away. We didn’t have a lot of birds coming into the backyard for some time because of the darn blue jay. Once we hung this up, we were unsure whether birds would be able to get into the cage, but they were! We were delighted to see the lack of food source for the blue jays have allowed small birds to return back to the yard. A bonus is that food doesn’t get wasted as much! Because the food stays within the cage, it is not attracting other animals to the yard to feed off what has been dropped from the bird feeder and down onto the ground. Amazing product and definitely recommend it! Very easy to load food into and very light weight to hang wherever you like.

Rust in 3 days
Positives : Finches, titmice and chickadees love it, enter cage easily.Easy to fill & clean.Negatives : Spots of rust and a broken weld by the third day. Weep holes too small and few for this wet summer.

Very difficult to clean
The feeder looks fine and seems sturdy. My big complaint is the small millet seed falls under the lower platform and rots there. There is no easy way to clean this feeder. You have to remove the screws on the bottom to get the tube out, but the tube stays attached to the lower platform rather than allowing it to unscrew. Therefore, you can't get at the seed in the bottom to clean it. Bad for birds if it gets moldy.... Make it easier to clean, and I will love it!

Great for keeping Blue Jays out
I bought this feeder to give the smaller birds (chickadees, goldfinches, sparrows) an opportunity to feed. They were being denied access to other feeders by a large flock (~16) of blue jays. It works great for that! My woodpeckers can still access the seed using their long tongues which is fun to watch but the blue jays ignore this feeder. I have red squirrels, not gray squirrels, and one of the smaller reds can get through the wire mess but it largely leaves it alone in favor of other feeders on site. This one works MUCH better than a similar cage feeder I have that is tube shaped. The blue jays can fit their heads and bills into that one. Very happy with this feeder. It is small capacity so needs frequent (2x a week) filling. It is also difficult to clean the tube but not impossible.

Are squirrels just smarter than humans?
It took squirrels all of one day to figure out how to pop the top off. And since sunflower seeds don't come out of the openings they just pop those off too. Unless I can fix this myself I'm sending it back because 45 bucks??

Just what I needed
This feeder is attractive and keeps grackles out. The grackles can empty my regular feeder in less than an hour but this one lasts 2 or 3 days with just the little birds using it. I put safflower in the other one so the bluejays and cardinals can eat too (grackles hate safflower) and keep sunflower in this one for the finches. Woodpeckers can use this one too—their tongues are long enough—but no grackles. Sorry guys but I still have plenty of bugs in my yard for you.
