How many teaspoons of loose tea are in the bag? I'm trying to estimate the cost of a cup of tea. It looks like maybe 100 teaspoons, or? Thanks.

It's a pound of tea or 454 grams.  A heaping teaspoon weighs 3 grams, so 150 cups of tea or so.

Is this stuff tea or some kind of herbal laxative?  all the reviews talk about valerian, and roots and demons.  what's going on here?

Which tea or tisane (often referred to as herbal tea but in most cases has no tea leaves) are you referring to? Sometimes the questions get jumbled. If it's the burdock root. It's great for acne, as a blood purifier and supports healthy digestion. (off the top of my head lol). Anyway, the leaves are eaten like spinach and the roots (kinda like carrot roots but from fuzzy flowers) are usually made into a tea or ground up into a poultice for topical application like a homemade face mask. Valerian is a flower that helps calm nerves, headaches and helps promote sleep much better than mild chamomile (which happens to be a cute little flower like those little daisy looking weed flowers you made chains with as a kid) it's also a type of ragweed! As far as valerian goes- Think poppies! :D  Laxative- Senna, Pu-Er tea (yep just like it sounds lol), cascara, dandilion root (yes another fuzzy flower) and chickweed (also great for clearing up a complextion). I'm happy to answer what I can even if it's loaded with a hint of sarcasm ;)

How much bulk tea is needed to make a gallon of tea?

Frontier Black chai? No way, favorite all time tea (okay, Dammann Freres Jardin Bleu is my for real favorite, way too rich for my blood, but truly the Champagne of teas..   but after that, Frontier Black Chai) It is ultimately dependent on your taste - as in strong or not, but, the box sometimes tells you the recipe for iced ice (assuming this because you are making a gallon). Frontier is by far the best chai I have ever tasted, but it would be wise to use something to cut the strength. Between a quarter to a third of the tea we used was Darjeeling. It offsets some of Frontiers super strong spices, dulling the brew slightly so you don't overclock your tastebuds. Also, it saves some cash. If you have a kitchen thermometer, the right temp doea truly have an effect on the brew, especially the lighter teas. So, back to the question you actually asked (sorry) add 2 teaspoons of chai for every 6 ounces of water to a big old plastic (I know...sacrilage) gallon container. Steep for 5-6 minutes at 212 F. Strain the tea leaves and spices. We made tea approximately every 3 days and had to use a wire kitchen strainer ( a strain the peas type) as the chai remnants were to overwhelming to fit in any normal tea strainer... we only drank the Frontier iced or black, so no ideas about the milky kind.
