What a Great Thriller with a Fantastic Cast!
If you enjoy twists and turns, and surprises, get set for a super movie. Karl Urban’s and James Marsden’s performances were applause worthy.

The critics didn't really like it but I enjoyed The Loft from start to finish. It is no Hitchcock film but quite entertaining.
Wow, the description didn't really pull me in...to be honest I don't remember exactly why I decided to watch this movie but I was not disappointed. I thought I knew what was going on most of the time but I was proven wrong more than once. I don't give away spoilers and I won't start here so let me close by saying that you will most likely be very surprised by the ending. I can often guess the direction a story is going and more often than not I am right but this time I was a child making wild guesses. The actors were cast rather well and they played their parts well. I was never a big fan of James Marsden but he was excellent in this picture.I had trouble deciding whether or not I was rooting for his character, let alone whether I liked him or not. Mr Marsden was quite excellent. I don't mean to imply the other actors and characters were lackluster by any means, they were quite excellent as well but I was pulled in by Chris Vanowen, the actor played by Mr. Marsden. Some of the critics didn't like the movie and called the plot uninspired but I disagree. I found myself sitting at the edge of my seat more than once. I rather enjoyed the movie but I do have to add that watching it a second time might be difficult once you know the ending and most of the plot. I can't give it 5 stars but I do with there was a 1/2 star because this movie earned 4 1/2 stars in my opinion. If you are a fan of mystery whodunnits then I suggest you give The Loft a chance. I think you will enjoy it.

INTERESTING!
OK so my son has seen the movie and so had a girlfriend of mine. I’m someone who like to know the gist of the story and a little bit of who’s who when was going on pretty much tell me about the story. Ha ha ha ha but they both said you have to see it is very interesting because everybody is into something. The person who actually killed the girl is not who you thought. I looked at the cover and decided who did it and I was right.

Intrigue Aplenty in this stylish thriller from the US.
The plot of this thriller is pretty simple – on first glance that is. In that five friends – all of whom are married – all get together and buy a loft apartment. This is to be used as a ‘passion pad’ or any other term less ‘poetically inspired’, if you follow and here they can bring back partners for sexual congress and indulge their wildest fantasies – etc.Now all is well and good but then one of them arrives there and finds a woman handcuffed to the bed and dead. It is clear she did not do it herself and there are only five keys to the loft and only they all know the entry code. It is not long before they are all thinking the same thing – and that is one of them must know more than he is letting on.Now this is stylish and very well acted by all players. Nice to see Matthias Schoenaerts getting a break in a non European film, but this is hardly a stretch for him after the likes of ‘Bullhead’ or ‘Rust and Bone’. The real attraction is that this seems to be fairly simple and then the Machiavellian twists start to turn up and it gets very interesting very quickly. It is a good watch and there is not a single lack lustre performance, but like so many films it trades on its twists, and as such will not be one that you will probably want to see more than once, and so a rental option, methinks, may be best, but it is still very much worth seeing - even if it is just the once.

Ridiculous but enjoyable
The Loft is all a bit ridiculous to be honest but proved to be strangely compelling with an engaging enough mystery at its heart. The set up is quick and effective - five married fellas set up a snazzy little loft apartment for them to use for illicit liaisons. Sounds like great sleazy fun for them until a woman turns up dead, handcuffed to the lofts large bed. Everybody claims not to know a single thing about her and we're off and running on a little murder mystery stuffed full of twists and turns. The film jumps around various timeframes in a non linear fashion, putting together all the pieces of the puzzle. This style keeps things moving and keeps the plot relatively interesting - it rarely slows down long enough to dwell on whether it always makes total sense. A capable ensemble cast on both sides of the gender divide are all watchable enough although the boys are all such lying, cheating douchebags it's tough to really root for any of them. Admittedly some are worse than others of course. It all adds up to an enjoyable journey, perhaps not the most memorable one but worth a watch.

Region 2 DVD
Love the movie but wish the ad stated it was a region 2 movie that won't play on most north American DVD players.
