Good but one negative
IF I were to buy this Blu-ray player again, I would purchase it without the bundled software that I paid extra for. The software that came bundled won't play Blu-ray disk on my Windows 11 computer. I had to search out a third-party player software in order to play Blu-ray disk on my computer.

Works well with Blu-Ray or regular DVDs
Just slide the disc into the slot. When the disc is recognized select play etc. If there is a problem with the disc just push the button to eject it and push the the disc in again and it picks up where it left off. I have not had to exchange any Netflix discs for another one. I'm using the Cyber Link Version 22 but it works with earlier versions. The Blu-Ray color is beautiful. I am very happy with this player.

Rips 4k no problem
I have been ripping blurays, but I got this so I could do 4k UHD. I read that some other drives have to be flashed in order to read 4k UHD, but this one doesn't. I popped in Titanic 4k and it worked. I am glad I bought this. It seems nicer than my other disc readers. I'm using Ubuntu with MakeMKV to rip the movie. I'm sure it works on Windows, but if not, I'll post update when I try it later.

Worked 45 days then it didn’t
Bought this to import movies into my NAS. Worked well for about 45 days. Stopped working/reading. Bought a disc cleaner but this did not help. It’s diagnosis was it had to skip a damaged area. Tried to get Amazon to help. They referred me to the vendor - PRODUPLICATOR - or something like that. Tried to call but the phone number isn’t in service. Read their fine print and they don’t accept any returned items after 14 days. Are you kidding me? $265 dollars for a Pioneer product and it has no warranty after 14 days? Customer service abysmal. Amazon didn’t give any options either. Expensive lesson learned. Won’t be purchasing any electronics from third party vendors with a customer service of less reputation than my local 99 cent store. Amazon should be ashamed to rep these guys too.

Works perfectly in Linux
This drive works great! Pretty much plug and play in Linux. It's fast and reliable. I have only used it for reading discs so far and it seems to meet my expectations in every way.

UHD not supported by AMD systems
Love Pioneer products, and this player is no exception. However, I am running a Ryzen 9 processor on an MSI motherboard which does not support UHD 4K Blue Ray disks on the drive. The disk filesystems were visible, however, no player would play those kind of movies. Also, you can download Cyberlink Media Suite, specifically in question is PowerDVD. If you don't have an Intel system with the ability to enable SGX, PowerDVD will not play UHD disks.

nice and portable but no external power cable..
when you see the reviews about not included software i would ignore and not take that into consideration on the overall rating. Those who complain about it and give 1 star are being unrealistic in this day and age where there are plenty of open sourced alternatives to mastering CD/Blu Ray discs.. again their complaints are ignorant.. with that being said. Im confused to why they didnt include a external power supply cable. yes i know i can just pick one up but the included 2 usb cables, just chuck in the external power cable in as well. i havent actually tried backing up or mastering blu rays but in *nix i dont think there will be an issue.

Excellent Drive.
Solid rip speeds on 4kUHD. LibreDrive right out of the box so no flashing required. The only real down side is that its expensive.

I have a good computer system with Windows 10, Nvidia RTX 2080 Super graphics card, and Intel graphics with a 4K monitor. Basically everything that should be required to play 4K Blu Ray disc's. So I bought the Pioneer optical drive and the box sets for the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings, set it all up, and viola ... the movies can't be played. Apparently, there is hardware security built into the optical drive that prevents the movies from being played. To make things worse, the security technology has been discontinued by Intel and equipment manufacturers like Pioneer, so there is no way to make this drive play purchased disc's. My recommendation is that you do not buy this drive, or any other optical drive for a home computer, if the expectation is to play your Blu Ray disc's on the computer. For writing your own disc's this drive is probably top quality, but not for purchased media. I haven't tried regular DVD yet, but that doesn't use the same security as Blu Ray so I expect that would work.
