Not A Good All Around Scope Due To Unforgiving Eye Box
The scope eye box on the unit I received was extremely unforgiving. A minuscule movement and the picture goes black. The window is extremely unforgiving with regards to distance from the eyepiece as well as side to side head position movement. There is a very narrow sweet point for viewing that must be rigorously maintained. This would be excellent for shooting long range on a bench with rests and a cheek plate that can be micro-adjusted to an exact setting. But otherwise the unforgiving window is not suitable for on a typical hunting rifle where rapid sight acquisition is required and where sight acquisition needs to be maintained, as well as for tactical use requiring rapid sight acquisition of moving targets. As a long distance target scope this is a great value. But it is advertised as a more all purpose scope, which it is not. That is the basis for my low rating. On the positive side the scope is really good looking and well made. The scope lenses are bright, and remained bright at 24x without dark rings around the periphery, and the focus seemed to remain crisp. I say "seemed to remain crisp" because I couldn't hold the scope steady enough to focus it thoroughly at any magnification level due to the window going black; The scope was not mounted on a rifle, but rested on a solid surface and held as immobile as possible. The focus knob was stiff, but would have been easier to operate with a throw lever (which I did not attach) and mounted on a rifle (which I also didn't do due to the sight box issue). I did not test the turrets. The unforgiving window was so severe that I am inclined to think that the scope I received was defective or damaged, and I returned it asking the seller to check it. The seller said he understood my complaint, and that the scope was probably not damaged, signifying to me that the unforgiving window is a characteristic of the scope. I will update this review if it turns out to be a damaged scope.
