Excellent Fire Starter. Innovative, with the magnesium integrated into the flint. I was able to generate a very good spark with only a few strikes. The included "tool" makes it very easy to use & facilitates the spark generation. Read the directions included - the magnesium coated flint should be wiped to remove the light coating of protective oil before first use. That should solve most of the "Gee, it didn't work" comments. Really didn't care about the luminous handle, so didn't test it - we'll just have to see how it works some evening. Lightweight and handy - a must for anyone's BOB or camping/Hiking bag. Excellent product & service from the company. Price was very good for the high quality of this fire starter.

Update.The company reached out and offered to send us a new fire starter. This ine worked great. The broken one i would say was just a one off, or had been damaged in shipping. I cant say enough good about BlizeTec.When i open the box the green plastic handle was broken off the fire starter. But it does work with out the handle,and was easy to start a fire, especially where i was teaching my sin the first time how to use one.

Delivered very quickly , and produces decent spark . Wouldn't count on it in a do or die situation if you need fire FAST , but is a good backup fire starter for camping . The whistle works great and is a functional size to keep handy ...which is where you want to keep a emergency Whistle ;)

These are pretty good rods. They work better than the standard LightMyFire models because of the longer rod and the wider diameter. They throw an over all better spark. However these rods do not glow in the dark very well. But they are some of the best for a cheap price at the basic task they are designed for. This is EXACTLY the same as the Uberleben Rods

Performed exactly as advertised. There is a protective coating over the flint that needs to be removed prior to sparking this. I used the toothed edge of the scrapper tool. Once the coating was removed, it sparked up nice and easy. Lighting a fire with good dry tinder only took 1-2 sparks. scraping flint onto the tinder before making a spark helps catch the tinder a lot quicker then just sparking it. Using the flat end of the scrapper produces a bigger more steady spark. The cord is long enough to have some play to scrape with ease. The luminescent green handle really has a bright glow to it if left in the sun for 10-20 minutes. Its enough to see what you are doing in a dark situation. I cant say much about my whistle since mine turned out to be a dud. I couldn't get it to sound. A few friends tried and couldn't either. Just air would pass but no sound. It looked nice though. All in all I am happy with my purchase.

First this is a nice sized rod. The striker works fairly well. Not sure if I will utilize the unit as a measuring device! Love that it glows in the dark too. The whistle while not super loud does produce enough decibels to alert someone near by. Overall I plan on buying more as Christmas gifts for my friends who are into camping and bushcraft. One can never have enough ferro rods IMHO. And this......is a really great product. Thanks Blize Tec!

My wife joked when watching survivor that she wanted to learn how to start a fire using a magnesium fire starter, so I got her the BlizeTec. This thing puts out a blast of sparks and starts a fire easily. I suggest holding the striker still and pull back on the magnesium rod for best control. Use the striker's flat edge, not the groove. Get in close to the birch bark and kindling and pull back several times and you'll have a fire in no time.

I bought this item over a year ago probably and I always use it even still. I like to start my campfires with it rather than using a lighter or matches. Obviously it's more effort but it makes it that much more rewarding. Only problem is the handle on the rod cracked and came loose and so now I have to keep putting it back in..not sure how to remidy that but something isn't right about it. Other than that it's a great item.
