MICROspikes Footwear Traction for Winter Trail Hiking & Ice Mountaineering - Black - X-Large

It's getting towards the end of the season, so I figure I'd give a review. Wore them all winter on popular local trails and never had a single fall (at least due to slipping). They work really well for gripping on ice and packed snow. The rubber part seems a bit too snug when you initially get them, but it loosens up a bit after a few hours of wear so that they are easier to get on and off while still remaining firmly attached to your boots. The size guide on the Kahtoola website was accurate for me. Didn't notice any defects and have worn them for maybe 50 hours total. Would recommend.

My wife and I have been wearing the various iterations of MicrosSpikes since 2009. We live in MN and put about 4-5 miles per day on icy winter trails. I have tried other brands and none have compared to the fit, traction and toughness of these spikes. If you find yourself walking like an ice-skating polar bear - give these a try you will be blown away. They are great on ice and also in snow depths where you would start considering snow shoes. They are also very good in the spring when you have a mix of icy patches and frozen ground. My wife is 5.6 and 120 and has never broken a pair. I'm 6.6 and 260 (maybe a little more after Christmas) and i have broken the chain links on a couple of them. Frankly at my size, the amount of ice we cover and the frequency of our hikes, I'm surprised they last as long as they do. Kahtoola and The Shuttered Image have been very responsive with replacements and recommendations. I would remove them after each use to allow the rubber to remain tight and to allow your boots to breath - you may see a little condensation where the rubber covers the boot. Long story short- I wouldn't hike in the winter without these spikes.

This is one of the smartest devices I have seen in years. As I collect birthdays, I have come to fear the ground level fall more. These are easy to use and make ice days safe for simple outdoor tasks like taking out the trash and walking around the block. Simple, easy to use, and extremely high quantity.

Well built and really work. I’m 6’1” and weigh 240#. These held me on a fairly steep (45°) ice, incline. I was skeptical but they worked perfectly. They’re a little more expensive than some other brands but spikes are longer & sturdy.

Was kind of skeptical at first but put them on, I really like them for ice fishing they'll be the first ones I grab from now on!

The build quality is excellent. I have had these in a variety of terrain and across several different surfaces. They grip well on packed snow, ice, moss-covered boards, and large rocks/boulders. I have hiked approximately 20 miles in these so far and show little to no wear, just some scuffs, and scratches. I find that the spikes pick up small pieces of bark and other trail matter, but a forward kick usually dislodges the debris. Great spikes and I definitely recommend if you're in the market for some.

Put these on my snow boots to use in ice and snow and they work wonderful. I was a little concerned if they would fit my size Men 13 boots and they did. It was a good fit but I wouldn't go any more sizes higher as that would a stretch. Theses spikes seem durable also which will be perfect for my trip to Iceland as I'll be walking on glaciers.

They go on tight which is good and stay on not matter the direction of ice. If rubber straps stay good I will super happy with them. So far excellent. Bought Nov 2003 one strap broke now I don't use them a whole bunch but 2.5 years not long enough for the price payed,tried to click on product support but it goes no where. So if I don't here back for any one will not buy again. Will see I guess

Have a steep exposed aggregate driveway that can become a skating rink in the winter. Was tired of worrying about slipping while trying to deal with snow so invested in these. They work! Can’t wait to use them on wintery hikes as well.

What can I say ... they are awesome! I’ve worn them at least 10 times now and if they hold up (no doubt they will) ... we had snow then a melt and then a flash freeze. Feels like I’m walking on a dirt gravel trail. I go up and down hills and cross streams on ice covered logs with confidence ... I’m buying a back up pair now.
