Normal ingredients, easy recipes, OUTSTANDING taste. Can't recommend more.
I don't use a lot of cookbooks. In fact, this is the ONLY cookbook I've gotten that I keep going back to. My wife loves what I've been making from it and keeps asking me to re-make some of them, but I want to try all these recipes because they keep turning out so amazing! After I make a new one she tells me she's glad I did.The two best things about the cookbook to me (aside from the amazing taste) is the:1 - simplicity of the recipes: the ones I've tried have all ben quick and easy, which should result in flavorless or unsophisticated food. Yet they turn out like 5 star meals.2 - the use of normal ingredients: I have to pick up very few extra ingredients when making these recipes, as she seems to go out of her way to use what is likely already in your kitchen. No substitutes needed here, so refreshing!Hands down, the BEST venison or wild game cookbook available. You will not regret it, and she will not publish a new cookbook that I won't buy. Get this one NOW.

Good advice, good recipes!
After our hunter friend offered to give us an entire deer, I cooked some which came out a bit tough. So I researched venison recipes and found Allie's blog. I tried one of her recipes, which came out delicious, so I decided to invest in her cookbook to honor the gift from our hunter friend and do justice to the meat. I didn't want to trial-and-error, hit or miss on 60+ lbs of venison! I'm an experienced cook, very comfortable in the kitchen and make much of my food from scratch, but had no experience with venison. I have now tried several of her recipes! The roast, medallions, two marinades and several sides, to name a few. All were tasty, plus her tips served me well in making crockpot venison stew, as I needed to add fat and acid plus some tomato sauce, (something I don't need to do for beef stew). Anyway, I want to try more of her recipes but need to buy a meat grinder as some recipes call for ground venison. The dishes are delectable, and as promised in the intro, they are ingredients most people will already have on hand, or are available at any grocery store. Another plus is she has a few "lightened up" dishes. I don't avoid fats in general as some fat is important for health, my husband does have to be careful with his gallbladder and eat a bit carefully, so her "lightened up stroganoff" is good, he can eat that. Also, the author is apparently a photographer, too - the photos are gorgeous if you're like me, a visual type who gets inspired to cook by looking at photos. This book was well worth the money, my family is enjoying the venison! Anyone who says you cook venison just like you would beef is dead wrong, and anyone who says venson is gamey or tough is also wrong. As the author explains, venison is different and must be handled differently! Highly recommend this cookbook.

Easy to use
I love the recipes and the fact that Allie explains the “why’s” behind the ingredients. I have made 4 or 5 recipes, so far, and all have been great.

WONDERFUL RECIPES, BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS
This is a wonderful selection of venison dishes with easy-to-follow instructions and beautiful full-color photographs of each recipe. This book would be a great gift for those new to venison as well as for seasoned chefs. I've ordered a second copy to keep!

Accidental hunters' wives, unite!
When my husband started really getting into hunting a few years ago, I had very little to go off of for recipes using his game meat (and most of the time ended up super disappointed in the outcomes). Fast forward to last year's deer and elk hunts and Allie's cookbook has completely changed the way we approach cooking with game. Every single recipe in this cookbook is approachable and SO incredibly delicious!! The very first thing we made was the Roasted Whole Tenderloin with Peppercorns served with the Blueberry Balsamic Reduction and not only was it super simple but the layers of flavor and how those flavors complemented the venison meat made it one of the most amazing meals we've made to-date. I can't recommend this book enough for people like me who find themselves an "accidental hunter's wife" as Allie puts it. It will seriously change your relationship with game meat! I could say so much more but I'll let the recipes speak for themselves when you buy the cookbook.

Easy cookbook
I've just added venison to my diet. This cookbook has a variety of recipes that are easy to make and uses common spices. They are easy to modify and adapt to suit my tastes and use of spices. I would highly recommend this cookbook.

Have made a few recipes since getting the book and they are awesome. I have flagged a quite a few for future meals. Hope hubby gets another deer this fall - I am anxious to try the recipe for venison stock using the bones.
