If the description says water temperature then it's for water temp.

Will this work in a gm ls 6.0 engine?

As long as you can fit the fitting and run the wire this will work. Temp starts at 104 then goes higher, it's a cheap gauge with very small wires. But works extremely well.

will it work on a 77 ford 300 6 cylinder gas motor?

Work great on my ATV, very good gauge. Cub cadet challenger 700. Gas engine.
