The Bug Girl: A True Story

As a fellow bug lover -- this is a great kids book.

I'm sewing a bug dress, the umpteenth one, for my granddaughter right now. I bought this book for her bc the book is about a girl that could be my granddaughter. In fact, just a few weeks ago, I was saying to my daughter that we needed to find someone, an entomologist, who could help us cultivate her passion for insects, bugs and spiders. Ever since she could crawl she has been fascinated. Then I found this book. "Read it again, Grandma." Then I heard her "reading it" to her critters. The stuffed ones. It's a wonderful story, well illustrated, and educational as well. Loving.

Love the text, love the illustrations, love the inspirational message for girls (and boys). Gave it to my 6 year old niece for a birthday present along with an insect puzzle. This lovely story is a wonderful introduction to the beauty of nature and the insects we need to protect. Pleased with purchase.

I love this book because I've loved bugs forever and they love me too - just like Sophia. When I was 2-1/2, a grasshopper stayed on my finger for 20 minutes and I showed him around inside my house before I put him back outside in the grass. In kindergarten, a girl purposely stepped on the worms I was trying to save and it hurt my feelings. Some people just don't get it! That is hard, just like it was for her, so it's good to know I'm not the only one. I LOVE SO MUCH that A KID wrote this book and didn't wait until she was a grown up! AND I think Sophia and I should be FRIENDS!

Cute book for my bug loving girl. The only part we did not enjoy was about the grasshopper bring stomped. It made my daughter feel sad all evening. Wish that part wasn't in there but I know it made Sophia sad as well. We love the bug facts and Sophia's story :)

Great book for kids who loves bugs. My grandson was getting teased because he is a protector of bugs. This was a great book to help him understand everyone has a right to have different hobbies and that is OK. Love this book.

Very well written book. In the first read itself it made my son so interested in bugs.... Please do buy this to create interest for children in nature and nature parks. As an architect I can take my son to any number of children parks in the city (Mumbai) but nothing like reading more about them and to develop an interest in the smallest of the living creatures. As an adult we loose touch with all this, but a child connects you back to real life with nature.

This is a lovely true story. The storyline has so many positive, inspirational themes running through it I just had to buy it for my young niece. I particularly like that it speaks to young girls; to follow your dreams, stay true to yourself, do what you love, find your joy, surround yourself with positive like-minded people and so many more life lessons. I am truly looking forward to reading it to her.

Gave it to two different girls in the 5-6 year old range. Nice illustrations, great story! So many kids these days don't see much of nature, it's lovely to have a book which encourages them to look closely. Based on a true story, and co-written by the now-4th-grader to whom it happened.

I gave this book to my great granddaughter for Christmas. I found it to be well written and beautifully illustrated. We haven’t been able to celebrate with them due to the pandemic, so haven’t seen her reaction yet. I think it is a wonderful book to encourage young girls to enter scientific careers or just an interest in science.

If you have a little girl in your life who’s best of her drum is a bit different than her peers you’re going to want this book.Very informative book with lots of information about bugs. An important life lesson in follow what matters to YOU.
