I Just Bought the Great Jim Reeves 8 CD Box Set
the Great Jim Reeves was an enjoyable experience for me. on opening this package, I discovered that all CD's are nicely housed in pockets. unfortunately, the CD's in the top pockets of every panel are not easy to remove without leaving fingerprints while the CD's down the bottom can be removed by sticking your finger through the hole. the booklet is also packed loosly in this package and could fall out. the overdubs in these recordings sounded better on some songs then the original. on listening to this CD set, I feel like Jim Reeves hadn't even died in his plane crash and that he had just re-recorded all his classic songs. for example, the version of "I Know One" is better and has more oomf to the vocals and instrumentations. I was really impressed with the interview on the end of CD number 8. I discovered facts about Jim I never knew including that he liked pancakes for breakfast three days a week. this interview cracked me up. this CD set kept me intertained all evening and all morning. I listened to this set on the way to my music lesson and it made the trip really fun. this is one of those box sets I will be constantly listening to. I love this set. 170 songs all remastered. no remastering defects found here! this will even shine a light over the 16 CD "Welcome To My World", which I also own. this box set of newly remastered, unreleased and overdubbed recordings is fantastic. thank you Voice Masters for making this product available.

The Great Jim Reeves: The Greatest cd buy!
This 8 cd set was a great buy. I've been a Jim Reeves fan for over 55 years. I thought I had everything (including the previously released Voice Masters and the HH stuff from the UK) I am very pleased with the selections. It is as though Gentleman Jim was alive in the studio last week. Thanks for the opportunities to listen to the music with a fresh new sound. I'll be looking for more!

The Great Jim Reeves
Having received the Great Jim Reeves CDs and booklet, first impressions of the packaging was of a very professional finish with a great photo of Jim Reeves. Inside lists all the tracks. Due to the fact that the CDs will be very well used and to preserve the packaging in its new condition I have put the CDs into their own individual case. Also I am now able to take a single CD to play in the car without damaging the packaging. The enclosed booklet complied by Larry Jordan and his daughter Sara gives great insight into the tracks recorded by Jim Reeves with some new previously unseen photographs. In my opinion this is a very well written booklet.I have never been a great fan of overdubbing or adding additional music to tracks of any artist. In the past when vinyl was king the Jim Reeves overdubbing, I found to be very insipid and weak. It did nothing to enhance the Jim Reeves sound. However, I am not as naïve to think that any subsequent over-dubbing in today's world of modern technology would be of the same poor calibre.I have listened to The Great Jim Reeves CDs with interest, hopefully to give a new dimension to the artist and I have not been let down. With the exception of a few tracks on the Gospel album the whole package does make you want to listen to his music again and again. The clarity of Jim's voice is wonderful. For someone who has listened to Jim Reeves music since 1971, it is inspiring. My opinion only. I found the gospel CD the hardest to come to terms with. For example, "Where do I go from here". The gentle quietness has been replaced with a strong guitar sound (this detracts from the voice) and a harshness overall to only a few tracks. The only other thing I would mention is the extra instruments (albeit subtle) to’ He'll Have To Go’ on CD no 5. It is mentioned in the booklet the song "Stand At Your Window" did not need any work to it as it’s already perfection, I really think He'll Have To Go was musical perfection. I know I will probably be the only one to mention this, but, this is a review.A brief summary of the CDS. CD1, I very much enjoyed. This relates to Jim Reeves' early offerings. The clarity of the voice is amazing and the new music makes all the tracks stand out. I hope in future releases more of the earlier recordings will be worked upon. CD2 - once again the voice has been brought to the fore. Although I have many of these tracks in my collection overdubbed by the same producer they are still a pleasure to hear again. CD3- this Gospel CD has already been reviewed. CD4 is excellent. The narrations are something to behold with the instruments never sounding out the voice. CD5 - Track 3,'A fool such as I', is superb. This track alone is worth the price of the collection. CD6 again is excellent with wonderful versions of, 'Dark Moon' and 'Throw Another Log on the Fire’. CD7 incorporates some Christmas music with a wonderful version of 'Mary's Boy Child'.' Over the past years I have belonged to the Jim Reeves' fan club run by Julie Jordan. Within this web site is a Jim Reeves forum to which I have enjoyed contributing posts. Unfortunately, I have been barred from contributing further posts because I have reviewed the 8 CDS with the same wording as above, but to a lesser extent. This was not to the producer's liking. I think however if you choose to write a review it has to be honest and this is what I tried to do. I would still urge anybody to join the fan club and to contribute to the site. Please do not delay in ordering your copy of 'The Great Jim Reeves 50th Anniversary Commemorative Edition'. In my opinion this will be the best Jim Reeves CD set in your collection. Also take the time to order Larry Jordan's book 'Jim Reeves The Untold Story'.Finally, great credit must go to Larry Jordan and his team for producing over the years some wonderful Jim Reeves' products. He has invested considerable time and money to keep the name of Jim Reeves alive.
