How to Play the Recorder Hardcover – July 7, 2015

I am using this book to help teach the recorder (which I don't play) as a fun supplement to our homeschool music curriculum. A nice introduction to an instrument, as well as a hands-on introduction to reading music without overwhelming the student or the teacher/parent. The color pages and uncomplicated instruction make it easy to follow.

Really good information to teach kids to play there recorder.

In my senior years I have taken up the playing of various musical instruments such as the ukulele, which I am terrible at, the harmonica, Indian flute, drums and numerous other percussion instruments. I decided to learn how to play the recorder and besides going on line for lessons I also purchased this hardcover 64 page book (How to play the recorder: A step-by-step guide by Lisete da Silva) to increase my skill level.Even though this book is aimed at young children taking up the recorder; nevertheless, I found this book to be challenging but very helpful when combined with my on line instructions.This book covers the following material: a basic introduction, your recorder, the recorder family, starting to play, reading music, time signatures, breathing, tonguing, hand positions, the notes of B, A, G, high C, high D, tied notes, long and short notes, making music and other essential basics you must learn to play the recorder.It is important to note that it would be extremely difficult to learn to play the recorder (or any other musical instrument) by merely reading and studying any book; however, taking actual lessons with an instructor in combination with studying this book will produce excellent results in learning to play the recorder.Rating: 4 Stars.
