Zakk Wylde: Guitar Apprentice

The Face to face lessons are SUPERB! Zakk explains a lot! Running over the scale shapes in a certain "lick" and note groupings(1,2,3 group of 3 plus group of 5 1,2,3,4,5 for example) is his basic concept, tying up Diatonic(Major or Minor for example) shape runs with Pentatonic shape runs. A thing I will always thank Zakk for teaching me is to play precise clean(he shows it clean then turns on distortion) blues/country licks and that right there is a rock/metal run when you activate distortion! Simply invaluable! he even shows 2 and 3 string bend "Rock-cliche" licks used by Jimmy Paige, Clapton, David Gilmore, and Gary Moore, among others. That said you MUST have a grasp on music theory and scale shapes to squeeze the most out of your experience! I've just finished memorizing the 3 main Pentatonic and Pentatonic blues shapes along with some Major and Minor shapes, so this DVD was just right for me!! I really understood Zakk's concept of using the shapes to run up and down the neck then use the note grouping licks(very bluesy based) to solo, if that makes sense. He just blew my mind when I realized I could transport all my bluesy feel, double stop playing (which I love) to rock/metal by making a few adjustments and adding distortion. Talk about having the tools, the vision and the talent!! This guy explains how he thinks about composing and playing in a very concise manner, since he's talking music language you need to be VERY well versed at it to really get a grasp of the simple, yet incredibly powerful, concepts and approach he uses. That said, this approach has been used, at least in it's key concepts, by previous and future rock legends(he influenced Andy James and he uses a similar approach). Along with Pentatonic Hardcore and Andy James' Shred Concepts, to me this is one of the best music lessons to date! Top notch material Zakk Wylde and Guitar Apprentice! I'M SALIVATING FOR MORE!

Haven't had much time to get into this but from what I see, this set is awesome. Zakk takes the time to literally walk you through these songs, note for note.

This was a gift, and he really liked it. I would say that a beginner could definitely learn using this and it can teach you the songs all the way up to an expert level. The only thing is it being on separate disc's makes it a bit inconvenient. I think the tabs which are guitar hero style and Zakk's tutorial should be viewable at the same time. Aside from that really good, and Zakk did a great job with the tutorial. I think his new online lessons are probably great too.

What I like the most is Zakks riffs!!

Very happy or I should say my son loves this set. This is his hero and he is very happy with this set. Highly recommended!

then you should really own this dvd set its as if you are having a private lesson with zakk himself,.

These discs don't teach you to play anything useful. First just one note playing along. Later a power chord playing along. But in the end you would only play well enough to stand near the band while they play so loudly that you're barely heard. In other words, playing what you learn here does not ever give you the ability to play lead or rhythm on these songs but only to hit some same-key notes alongside a band.

While this box contains 6 dvd's it only has 3 songs on it. The dvd's with the face to face lessons are really inspirational, and Zakk teaches not only the songs but also some techniques and how he executes them.The other dvd's contain a short of guitar hero kind of interface but it is way to cluttered to be of any use.If you like Black Label Society or just want some great songs to learn then definitely get it. If you want something more traditional learning methods and more content then I suggest to look further.

Value is definitely there for the money amazing condition husband loves it.
