The Spiritual Teachings of Marcus Aurelius

Not scholarly but worth reading
This is not a scholarly or religious treatise. It's written by a guy who was into Marcus Aurelius and was living in the world rather than an ivory tower. These taken selections from Meditations, Americanized the translation, and categorized them. I find it extremely useful as a reminder of how to live. Even if you regularly spend time reading philosophy, I think it's occasionally nice to have something laid in front of your face simply and directly.

Amazing book!
I borrowed this book from the library, and liked it so much I ordered it from betterworldbooks, one of my favorite (or maybe favourite) sellers. Marcus Aurelius was Emperor of Rome, but still made time for deep spiritual reflection, pondering the mysteries of Man, God and the Universe. He wrote down his philosophy, for his own personal use, but his writings were later published as The Meditations Of Marcus Aurelius. The Spiritual Teachings consist of selections from the larger book, compiled by Mark Forstater. This editor was also associated with Monty Python! It seemed to me that Marcus' philosophy was a lot like Eastern thought, or at least the universal wisdom.I would certainly recommend this book to anyone; even though it's almost 1900 years old, it could have been written last week!

This book is a great read. And full of Wisdom!!!
Knowledge is Power, And this books is filled with such great quote's and words of wisdom that this is my second time purchasing it. I gave my last copy to a homeless man on the the streets in LAS VEGAS NEVADA, I felt it would help lift his spirits. Being homeless dose not make you less of a human being, It just mean you are at a stopping block in life called Trails & Tribulations. At some point in life we all go threw some type of hardship or test. THANK YOU AMAZON FOR SELLING GREAT QUALITY.

I thought I was buying the original work of an author who'd studied the great Stoic's work and had something new to offer readers
Reading this book you would probably naturally think that it features the author's original work. In truth, however, there are a few short chapters belonging to the author followed by the writings of Marcus Aurelius taken directly from "The Meditations" which constitutes the bulk of the book. This struck me as entirely disingenuous. I thought I was buying the original work of an author who'd studied the great Stoic's work and had something new to offer readers. Do yourself a favour and buy "The Meditations" rather than this little number.
