Interesting and beautifully illustrated
A wonderful intro to African stories. Certainly makes one appreciate storytelling and the historical legacy of this region of the continent

daughter loves this book
my daughter loves these stories. this book is part of a series of different stories from around the world/different themes; I would suggest to get a few different books from the series to give context.

Valuable African Wisdom
This book is full of African stories and wisdom. One of the stories is particularly sad. Great purchase; would give as a gift.

Nothing is perfect
Stories from Africa are underrepresented, so this was a nice find. The book itself is of great quality and the illustrations are beautiful. The writing is worded a little oddly; like someone recalling the stories from memory, so details get left out or muddled. I wish they had also included something to explain the cultural background/reasoning for actions that would seem strange to a western audience - like the boy who murder-suicides his family because a N'jenge was slain. The book never even explains what a N'jenge is. From the art and stories I gather it is a mythological animal, possibly ape-like, but even online I can find precious little about this creature.

High quality and enjoyable
The hardcover book is high quality with good binding and paper quality. This series has been very enjoyable and I own 5 of them so far with plans to purchase more. Since it is a combination of short stories, it is an easy book to pick up and enjoy for 5 or 10 minutes.

Has potential but poorly written
I was so excited to find African folklore to share with my students. However, most of the stories are written so blandly, as if regurgitating facts instead of weaving a tale, that my students will never make it through them. I suspect it could be a translation issue, that it didn't give justice to the original stories. Many of the stories had abrupt endings and lacked transitions. The artwork was beautiful, but many of the stories needed an author to breathe life back into them.

The book is great but
it is utterly filthy and looks like it’s been ran over by a forklift or something
