I own the 'other' fan this fan is 40% more powerful than
I do own the the brand-x HAWF2043. This BWF0522E-BU blows more air, not a lot more, but more. The important thing for me is that this fan is quiet enough to sleep with while it is on high. The brand-x is a good fan but I find myself getting up at 2AM to turn it off because it is a little too loud. This Bionaire has 3 speeds. Each speed selection turns on another fan instead of ramping up the fan speed and noise. Low has one fan running, mid has 2, and high has all 3 with no increase in noise between low and high. To turn it off, press and hold the switch for two seconds, it remembers where you had it set. With my brand-x fan, i have to go through 13 or 14 switch presses to finally get it to switch off. The smaller height is a plus for me too. The old fan needs about 13.5 inches of opening. That is a little more than I am comfortable with for a window opening when I am not at home. This one needs about 9 inches. No normal person can slip in through a 9 inch opening. This Bionaire is also about an inch less deep which makes me less worried about damaging my window screen.Be aware, this is no 20 inch, super blower, (and cheaper) box fan. No comparison as far as air movement, the big box fan rules for that. This fan is probably best for small rooms, like a bedroom. It is a good ventilation fan that doesn't make a lot of noise.I use mine in a horizontal sliding window. I already owned a panel to cover the extra space at the top. The panel is not necessary but is nice to block out the light if you feel like napping during the day or want privacy. Speaking of light, I attached some carbon pre-filter to the back of this with Velcro. The material did not reduce the airflow noticeably but it did block out most of the light coming through the fan openings. That, and no one can see into your room, even at night. Maybe i even get cleaner air?To me this fan is a luxury that I would recommend. I live in coastal So Cal and often run fans 10-12 months out of the year, I have no AC.I will give this BWF0522E-BU some 8-24 hour per day use for a while and update this review if something changes.Enjoy

Great price and works great!
Works perfectly for my small bedroom window. It is quiet even on high speed. My room has little ventilation and typically runs warmer than the rest of my apartment. The first night I used it, it was actually cold. I now keep it on medium or low depending on day or night time.

Rather quiet and makes a nice breeze
(Formerly titled "Wow! Very quiet and moves A LOT of air!" - update at the end)I replaced a twin 8" window fan similar to the Holmes or Bionaire listed in the "Customers also bought" section. The old fan was pretty standard with two three bladed fans measuring about 7" inside the housing. These fan blades are quite a bit smaller at 5.5 inches. (For the math nerds out there, the older fan had about 98 square inches of fan area, this fan has 91 sq in. so they're pretty comparable in terms of size) This fan takes up a lot less window area, though since the housing is much smaller in size. There are a number of areas where this design is far superior to those older window fans:- Rather than a three bladed "boat propeller" design, these fans use a 9 bladed "scimitar" fan design more like what you'd find on a high-end computer fan. The scimitar fan blades are much more efficient and actually have more surface area than the typical three blade setups.- The fans are in ducted housings. Now you have to be a real fan of fans for this to matter but what it means is that the fan blades are housed in a tube that's only slightly larger in diameter than the fan blades. This means a more efficient design because no air escapes around the edges of the fan blades; it can only go forwards down the duct. Most low cost window fans have the blades inside a wide open housing which can result in a real loss of power. How does this translate into real-world performance? This fan is A LOT quieter than my previous fan and moves A LOT more air. Hard to argue with those kind of results, isn't it? This fan at full speed (all three fans running) makes less noise than the previous fan running on "low." I don't need to turn up the volume on the TV when this fan is running. As for the rest of the features, it's rather odd to have low-medium-high run one, two or three of the fans but considering how quiet it is, I'll probably always run it on "high" and not worry about it. The thermostat is also a nice feature where you can leave the fan unattended and know it'll kick on when needed. The panels used to adjust the width to match your window are also well thought out. The expanding panel on the one side has a very nicely designed lock and the slide-in extenders on the other side are a well-thought out track system which will give the fan plenty of support in the window. All in all this an excellent choice for a window fan. If you're looking for a stylish, efficient, quiet fan - you've found it.---------------After a few weeks of use this isn't quite the five-star fan first thought it was (so I knocked it down to four stars; still pretty good). On both of the units I bought one of the three fans has developed a wobble so that the blade rubs against the housing. Not the end of the world but not nearly as quiet as the out-of-the-box experience.Secondly, the fan doesn't move quite as much air as you'd think. The ducted design creates a very nice column of moving air that's still very focused far away from the window. That means it feels as if you're moving lots of air around but more realistically you've moving a smaller amount along a very narrow channel. If you're looking to have a breeze on your skin from across the room this is a great design. If you're looking to move a lot of air into or out of a room, this fan is a bit on the weak side.Still a nice fan for such a low profile but not quite as awesome as my first review would have suggested.
