Great read
I am re-reading all Leon Uris's books and they really draw you into the action and storyline. Brilliant entertaining read.

Curated egg - very good in parts
I would say 75% is really good and very enjoyable and liked the history etc very much. However I found the latter part not as interesting and a bit far fetched in parts. Unsure if I fully understand the ending!

Excellent and, er
I really wish that I'd read this decades ago. It brings the history alive. Racist? well, no. Haj Ibrahim is a thoughtful but confused person. Ishmael, his son is a dispassionate observer. Excellent and, er, brings the history alive. For those who claim that it's racist - it clearly isn't. The "Haj" of the title clearly needs to re-evaluate his views, whatever his attitudes to his wives and children.

Good read, taut, well crafted and great research. Gives a peep into the minds of Arabs living in Palestine and the how the Arab nation's tried to undermine both Arabs and Israel.

Unabashed racism.
This book is unashamedly racist. The Arabs are stupid, self-serving, ignorant, backward. The Jews are all saints. It's completely ridiculous.I am a fan of Mila 18 and Trinity. And the story itself is interesting, but every page jars the reader with reminders that the Palestinians are incapable of governing themselves and the entire Arab world is out for what it can get; only the Jews are equable. Only the Jews are capable of love.Very disappointing.

Historical Palistine
Purchased this book after the October 7th attack by Hamas on Israel in an attempt to try and understand the history of Palestine. Historically accurate and beautifully written. The author takes you on a cultural journey through time offering the reader the opportunity to understand the mindset and long held beliefs of both Arab and Jew.

Important book — very well presented...jt
Je vais écrire cette critique en anglais, parce que le livre est en anglais.First, I need to criticize the posting on Amazon for not stating that this was an "Unabridged recording."Had I known that, I would have bought it sooner... That is my only criticism of the presentation. The packaging, of this audio book on CD is the best I've ever seen. The production values — professional reading, dramatizing, with accents that were not condescending, is excellent.I would like very much to see more audio products with this quality & price."The Haj" tells the story of the founding of the State of Israel, from the point of view of Jews who do not hate Arabs, but understood the terrible position that their Arab brothers have put the Palestinian people. As I have written to decades, the Palestinian people have two existential threats;they have Jews for enemies and they have Arabs for friends. Those who reject that point of view probably won't like this book. I found it to bea fair telling of a the story of very difficult period of transition for two peoples;one that remains unresolved.

Like all Leon Uris books
Like all Leon Uris books, The Haj too, is centered around the Jews. although, there is something different. For one, it gives you a clear picture of the life and learning of Muslims through the protagonist- Ibrahim. The story is heart wrenching, sharp and clear. It does not wander and takes to once again, through Palestine and all stories attached to the holy land.
