Really badly written!
Very poor literary format and OMG - so much repetition right through the whole book. Usually enjoy her books but this one is dire - weak story line and could have been told in half the number of chapters and pages.NOT A GOOD READ,

What was the point?
Diana Davis is the head of the Davis crime family. As she ages, she must teach her only child, Angus Davis, the ways of her world so that he will be able to inherit it. Though willing, Angus has a lot to learn, as he soon discovers. Through harsh lessons, difficult situations, and lose-lose situations, Angus begins to take a lead role in the family business. But when he has three children of his own, will he be able to maintain his ruthlessness—even in regard to them?No Mercy was an enjoyable read for sure, but I felt unsure of where the book was headed until the last fifty pages. Angus was an interesting main character, but not particularly likeable? I connected a lot more with Eilish and Sean, but again they weren't truly a part of the story until much later on. I enjoyed reading about the daily occurrings in the Davis family, if you can call them that. Martina Cole is very good at writing real world style.I liked how the other crime families were introduced, often through conflict; resolution of a conflict, or creating a conflict. There was a well written intricacy of these interactions which was sustained throughout the book. There were some really great character dynamics, and I particularly enjoyed the contrast of Angus and Lorna, though Lorna as a character perplexed me. Other than being far from a stereotype, I didn't see much in her.The third person omniscient perspective gave the reader a look into a lot of different characters' heads, but the extremely short chapter length and switching between situations was a bit off putting. likewise the time jumps made sense, but also confused me; I felt like the story hadn't really moved forward, yet suddenly here we were, three years later. I'm just a bit uncomfortable about how women were portrayed in the novel, because yes it's crime, but also all the infidelity and talk about temptation...While there were things that I really liked about this book, on the whole I just wasn't sold and don't think it was the right book for me. A great deal of the book seemed to be introductionary in purpose and set the scene for the ending rather than revolving around a plot. There was a build up with characters as their personalities were expanded on and became increasingly problematic in a way, however this had little to do with the ending. But if you're a fan of crime thrillers then maybe check it out.

Disappointing after a long wait
Like everyone, after a two-year break I was expecting something brilliant! Unfortunately, this was not the case. The Matina of The Take and Two Woman might have had her day. I found it a chore to read and I was even skipping pages to get to the predictable end. The characters with repetitive tirades of how they were a "force" in their day, might have been put to better use to actually deepen the characters through actions, to make the characters believable.

To me it wasnt worth the wait
Again this is not the "old" martina and thats my opinion. The storyline was good but nothing i havnt read similar to before....i also didnt like how the story goes forward by a couple of years...one minute theres a child born and the next chapter she has 2 children....no inbetween...probably wasnt relevant to the story but nonetheless i found it annoying. Lot of characters too which is hard to keep up with.Im a die hard m c fan but her last 6 books are nowhere near as good as her early stuff...it pains me to say all this but i speak as i find because reading is my life.... with hindsight i shouldve spent £9.99 on something else

Same characters with different names
I am a massive martina cole fan. I have read every one of her books and pre order them as soon as I can. . . This is why it pains me to rate this book only 3 stars. The characters are mirrors of previous characters in her other books. Phrases are well over used and the writing is repetitive. It just feels her last 8 or so books have been the same with a few details changed. No real story line. Just a string of minor events. Martina seems to have lost her edge which is really sad. . . That being said I enjoy reading her books but maybe this is in hoping of a surprise ending or something brilliant like her earlier books. Particularly two women. Good night lady, dangerous lady, broken or the take. However this book had a better ending than her last 8 or so. But the characters seemed to familiar and some came and went with no relevance to the story.I do still love martina and I will still buy her next book because I do enjoy reading them. But I fear I am losing some of that faith in her writing as I nearly didn't continue with this one. Please martina gives us something new. .

Not a good read at all
This was not a good read at all, no real storyline to get into and finished without much happening at all, definitely wasn't worth the wait !

Martina Cole is back....with imo one of her best books
Martina Cole is back and back with a bang, a loud bang!I have read every one of her previous 24 books and this, for me, is up there as one of her bestIn this book its the Davis family we are introduced to via Diane the matriarch Mum and all their wheelings and dealings in true gangland fashion, we get to meet all the family characters and what a rum lot they are! Via the authors no nonsense story telling style we learn about their good and their bad sides, what they are doing and with who and what makes them tick all alongside a really fast paced story, there is even 2 massive twists that give back the brilliance that this writer is renowned forYes there is repetition and yes much mention of ‘strange’ ‘having to swallow their own knob’ and sayings that ‘their old Mum said’ but its all part and parcel of what makes a great Martina Cole story so distinctReally pleased to be able to say I loved this and the 2 year wait was well worth it10/105 Stars

Lost for words
Honestly as my title says I really am lost for anything good to say! I have always loved Martina Cole her earlier books were untouchable and I don't believe another author apart from maybe Jackie Collins could take you to the places she did, her storytelling was top notch and I felt like I knew each character completely . I've read thousands of books and still my all time favourite is goodnight lady but she cannot write like that anymore! There is no story, I don't know what the characters look like all I know is the repetitive explanations she now forces down your neck. It's such a disappointment to know that this legend in her lunchtime is no more!!!
