Fluence. The Continuance of Yohjl Yamamoto by Takay: Photographs by Takay

Look before committing
I am really disappointed with this book.As a fashion book on Yohji, whose name features prominently in the title, it fails completely as Yohji’s clothes are pretty much invisible - it could be voluminous clothing by any designer. As a book of portraits, it is also unsatisfactory as the personalities of the subjects are subsumed to stylistic considerations. The photos themselves come across as repetitive, albeit quite atmospheric and often beautiful - slightly out of focus black and white pictures of buildings and people, mostly in silhouette, with a lot of emphasis placed on expressive contortions of the hands like a Schiele drawing. They can basically be seen as atmosphere shots to accompany clothing shots in a fashion feature, but a bookful is simply too much. While I love black and white photography, I found myself rather bored after a number of pages as they just looked the same, and only a few were exceptional.I would advise anyone who considers buying this to look through it before they decide.
