Works well, glad to have this in the toolbox
I've used this with a few different bits (see photo), and usability is fine. I'm a DIYer without a lot of reps with this product, but it works for my level of use. I've used both the locking hex shank type bit as well as magnetic. I find that the magnetic holds maybe a little better than the hex shank. I've had no difficulty inserting to, or releasing from, the impact driver (mine is a Dewalt DCF601).I've read a few reviews that got the wrong product, and their photos are indeed the wrong product. That would be a fault of order fulfillment, and such a product should be returned if it doesn't look like the one in the photo I've attached. Notice the white arrow on the black collar, which indicates the direction to pull that collar to release the bit.I can't speak to durability because of limited use as a DIYer. However, I'm glad to have this in the toolbox for when I need it.

Best bit holder for the price on the market
I have these in the 3" (DWA3HLDFT) and 6" (DWA6HLDFT) versions. My introduction to this style of bit holder was through the Wiha GoBox/mini-ratchet/offset screwdriver kit. The Wiha is a bit pricier, and perhaps only slightly better built, but with a price tag that reflects that (and not available in the 6" length). In comes DeWalt with their take, and I gotta say, worth every penny. It's slim and doesn't catch on anything, so you don't have to worry about it fitting anywhere or catching on anything like bit holders that are much wider. The bits also don't get stuck inside, like other styles of locking bit holders, yet the bit retention is flawless.Truly a great design, and worth the money. Best impact-rated bit holder on the market for the money.

Super handy.
Why did I wait so long to get one of these? This extension grips bits solidly.

Slim, good concept of locking/unlocking mechanism
The size is good. The holding hex bit end is not too bulky and that is good for small space. Materials look good. The reasons that one star is deducted because: the unlocking isn't smooth to pull and taking a bit of pull to get the bit out. The sliding collar does not slide smoothly as well. It seems that it could use a bit of lube (I could be wrong here, that over time it wear in and will get smoother over time). You still need to use a bit of force to pull out the bit even when you pull the unlocking ring down.Last complain, this is not direct to DeWalt product. For some reason, my unit has a bit crack at the seam to open the package thus dust get into it a bit as well as it shows some sort of white cover on the black stem. It is not a corrosion, I believe. This could be the item has been returned and seal broke off cause the dust to accumulated.

First home toolbox upgrade
We just purchased our house and this has made a welcome addition to the toolbox. We can not work on more projects that regular drillbit lengths would not allow us to.

One of the BEST locking bit holder!
I own Bosch, Irwin and Milwaukee locking bit holders along with this one and I like this one the most. The locking mechanism for the bit holder is low profile compared the the mentioned brands and this one operates in the right direction! On the Milwaukee version the locking mechanism unlocks when you pull it towards the bit versus this which is away from the bit. When you work on ladders or other platforms where you have hole or slots where you can set your drill/impact with the bit holder into the hole or slot this one when pulled out doesn't unlock the mechanism. I've had my nut drivers slip out of the other brands when picking up my tool with the bit holder and have the locking mechanism catch and unlock against the hole of the ladder due to the direction of operation...TL;DR This is low profile, locking mechanism operates in a better direction versus other brands and it's durable! I use these hard as I do commercial glazing.
