Q: Is it possible to take out the metal pieces?

I was replacing some existing broken castors in a round poof/stool and removed the old metal pins from the poof with a claw hammer ...it took some pulling to get them out. Then I hammered the new complete pins/castorsinto the existing holes. Hope that helps!

Q: Does it have something underneath that protects the floor? like a rubber floor protector

The black part is designed to protect floor, that is why is called chair wheel replacement.

Q: Do these work with the Herman Miller Aeron chairs?

Yes I removed wheels off the chair and replaced them to save carpet wear, it all depends on how much movement you need
