Excellent book on saltwater fishing, cruiser or not
I found this to be a comprehensive, organized, thoughtful, well-written introduction to saltwater fishing. The text alternates between an instructional and a conversational style, with a mixture of solid, stepwise information -- and entertaining stories to demonstrate some of the key points. The black and white photos are informative and add to the text. The book covers a broad range of techniques and species, along with safety information, and practical advice on gear. The book is written from a cruising perspective but would be valuable to anyone engaging in marine fishing. The only drawback is that the book has not been updated since its 2003 publication, and portions are now somewhat out of date.

The Cruiser's Handbook of Fishing
If you sail a lot off-shore and would like to do some fishing, this book is fantastic. It is extremely broad, covering a very wide range of topics like trolling, fishing from a dinghy, fishing from shore, spear fishing, walking, wading, catching your own bait, cast nets, etc. It also has very specific and detailed equipment advice. My family and I are really looking forward to our next bluewater sailing adventure to try it out. The only cons we noticed are that it doesn't provide adequate information to identify your catch, and it doesn't mention braided line or fluorocarbon. You may need to get a fish identification guide for the area you will be sailing in.

Amazing stories
Love the photos, wish there were more. Great reference guide for someone relatively new to fishing. Will definitely keep on the boat.

Great book for sailers and fishermen alike.
This book is GREAT. I love fishing, and I love sailing. This book is probably the best reference I have ever seen on how to mate the two together. Everything from basic fishing for fun... to survival fishing in case of disaster. There are sections on gear, tactics, safety, cooking, species recognition, diving both day and night, and LOTS of drawings and photos. Bannerot not only earned his money, but he did the sailing world a great service when he wrote this book.

Wealth of information!
More than I'll probably ever need to know about fishing while cruising. Good information on gear needed, how to use it and where to find what fish. I think this knowledge is going to come in very handy in a few months when I begin my cruising life of living aboard and sailing where the wind blows. Now that I've read it, I can't imagine not having this book on the boat. Easy to understand and dumbed down enough for someone like me who's never fished salt water to gain an idea as to how it's done.

Holy Bible for any fishing Sailor!
I purchased this book prior to sailing from Panama to New Zealand in a 35’ Beneteau. This ended up beating the Holy Bible for me during this ocean crossing. I can’t not thank Scott & Wendy Banneker enough for putting such in-depth knowledge and advice into this book. This book fed me and entertained me during long passages, and I hold this book in very high regards! THANK YOU!

Beware the Kindle edition
The Kindle edition had photos, tables and figures as far as the beginning of Chapter Two. After that, none. No pictures of the lures, hooks etc mentioned in the text. Despite being clearly written and very informative, without these illustrations, much value is lost. Can anyone suggest where or how I might be able to download the tables and figures separately?

A Complete Referece for Fishing from a Boat
I purchased this book hoping to troll for a fish while sailing, thinking the book would give me information on what lures to use and how to rig the line, but it is more than that. It covers almost every mode of fishing available to a cruising boat, plus the equipment and techniques to use. I also learned a great deal from the chapters on processing the catch and how to avoid poisonous fish. The book works well as a reference too since specific facts are easy to locate when details on a specific topic are needed.
