St. Joseph Sunday Missal: For 2014 Paperback – September 30, 2013

I went to my sister's Church last weekend and I was a little lost because they had a different Missal than my Church. I kept flipping through pages to try to catch up and although I knew most of the responses and prayers, I fall back into the old versions, so I do need to read along. [You can't erase 33 years of reciting prayers/responses a certain way - I am still not used to the 2011(?) changes to the Mass/prayers.]Anyway, my Missal arrived today and I flipped through it - exactly the same set up as the one in my sister's Church. There is a calendar in the front of the book to tell you what page the Mass text begins on. The ONLY bad thing is that there are no ribbons for bookmarks, but for less then $2.00 beggars can't be choosy. I have cut some ribbon that I had at home to mark the pages before I go to Church next weekend, and I think that will help. I do like that after each section, it clearly tells you what page to turn to. It is made organized logically, but at first can be confusing if you aren't used to it. I like that I can prepare for next Sunday's Mass and mark the pages ahead of time.Overall, I think it's great.Note: I bought the "Missal Guide 2014," because it says "a handy calendar indicating the Mass and Texts..." You do not need it. This St. Joseph Sunday Missal: For 2014 has the calendar in it. I personally find no use for the "Missal Guide 2014" especially since it says it is for the St. Joseph Sunday Missal 2011 --> not 2014 (which I did not see).

I bought 4 of these books for our small bible study group and everyone seemed to like them right away. One of the 4 books arrived with the front cover a little bent, but otherwise the rest were in great shape. We use the book with the bent cover and we just added some shipping tape to the back of the cover to strengthen it and it is fine for us. The missal is very easy to follow during Sunday's Mass, including all the prayers from the Entrance to the Concluding Rites. It is nice being able to read the Gospel readings and also hear them said to us. It is also easy to read along with the Eucharistic prayers since the missal has nice directions on finding what page to go to for the next set of prayers. I found it best to use bookmarks to quickly get to the proper page. The first is placed at the beginning of the Order of Mass and I will move this as the Mass is said. The second bookmark I placed at the Preface for that Sunday. The third bookmark is placed at the beginning of that Sunday's Gospel readings. We will most likely buy this book each year so we can follow along and also prepare ourselves for attending each Mass.The pages are thin paper, but for the price that is what I expected. It can fit in my wife's purse very easily. God bless you.

I really enjoy having the St. Joseph Sunday Missals which are annual releases each Fall. They are pocket sized and can be brought easily to any location to read, review. It is easy to follow the order of the Mass and there are many extras included. the price is very reasonable. I like having my own Missal at home so that I can review the readings and the Mass themes before the weekend services. The Treasury of Prayers, popular hymns and other extras are also helpful. I also buy extra copies for my elderly parents (shut ins) who use it watching the televised Sunday Mass. Since the cover is only cardstock, by the end of the year, if you use it regularly, it will show wear, but I am in month 10 and while used, still in very serviceable condition. Being a disposable you can clip the upper end corners and reference the current Sunday Mass readings and easily move from the Order Of Mass to the Specific readings, prayers for the week. I have been using this for 10+ years and will continue to do so as long as available. Highly recommended if you are looking for the annual, disposable (yet durable) Missal.I have also had/used the St. Joseph ABC 3 year cycle Missals which are more permanent and those are about $20. Same easy to use format as this annual missal, just in the 3 year cycle mode...thicker book obviously.

I find going over the weeks readings before mass helps me to absorb the lessons better as well as honor God . This is so affordable and can be a real blessing for those who may have hearing impairments but are still able to read . My eyes are not so good but I can read this fine beforehand at home with a magnifier . I would rate the size of the print as medium not large but it isn't real fine like many materials come in . The cost was under $2 delivered to the house making this very affordable and with allot of use they being paperback obtaining a new one annually is just about right . It can be left on a coffee table and everyone in the house can use it for reference during the week .

After my husband saw my Annual Missal, he had me order one for him.I use my Missal every single week, and it has greatly enhanced my participation.I recommend you become somewhat familiar with the layout ahead of time, as you do need to flip back and forth a bit.Tip: I inserted little tabs in my Missal which has worked perfectly for me. That being said, however, this Missal does have the best format you are going to find.I began with the 2013 Annual Missal, and was so pleased, that I just ordered the 2014.This Missal will always be current and up-to-date. Any new Mass settings will be reflected in your Missal.At this price, I think it's a 'must have' for all Catholics. If the Spirit moves you, pick up a few extras and donate them to your Church :)

Great to have easy access to Sunday Mass. Better understanding to it all, and the book is so compact, easy to travel with.
