Ask them the story behind the song and I'm sure 9 out of 10 times you will receive a blank stare or shrug. I knew the basic story from when the album was released. I did not know the all the details and this video filled in the gaps. Who is Funky Claude? Why was the Rolling Stones truck parked just outside? All those answers are in this video. But wait......this is not only about one song! This tells the story of how the tracks were developed...how they were written.....how Jon Lord achieved his monster B3 sound.....Richie Blackmore's guitar artistry and how classical music helped develop one of rocks prized possessions.......Machine Head..... If you appreciate the music, learn about it....buy the DVD! Review: A COLLECTORS ITEM - Any Purple-addict should buy this DVD, Good Quality, very interesting new footage of the legendary recording of the Machine Head album, although the story is told over and over again, it is very nice to hear and see what happened there in Montreux back in 1973 out of their own mouth. I hear people complaining over the fact that"lazy"is missing, this might be a pitty to some of us, even me, but as you probably know very little film is available of the mark II formation. (For Example Scandinavian Nights is the ONLY full concert of the Mark II ever put on film)That's why i think this is all they've had and it's worth the buy! Enjoy it as I did, over and over again! and add it to the rest of your Deep Purple collectors Items! Thanks; Ritchie,Ian ,Roger, Jon and (little)Ian for the greatest Rock-music ever!!

Modern Horror with a classic Frankensteins monster story!
The premise of this film may seem goofy, but the guy they actually turn into the "machine-head", sees his reflection and realizes he is an abomination, yet still a whole bunch of people die in grisly ways. Universal monster plot and conflicting situations for the monster, but with enough 80's-90's gore in it to make it a really good film on the Brain Damage label. And if you have ever liked a Brain Damage Films movie, seek out "Carnage Road: The legend of quiltface" That's my favorite!! But this one does things reminiscent of 30's films in a shot on video style bloody horror film. A Good one to catch! Happy Viewing!

Thoroughly Enjoyed it!
I wasn't a huge fan of Deep Purple till i heard Machine Head for the first time a couple of years ago. I never saw them live or knew too much about them , but i bought this after getting the killer remixed version of Machine Head. I think it's great. Like i said , i thoroughly enjoyed watching it , it's a great buy especially if you're a fan. I got to know the members of the band a little bit more watching this DVD , especially Roger Glover who seems like a real cool guy and a true lover of music......just like a fan himself! Cool stuff........I definitly reccomend it.

Nice one
I have a few Classic Rock DVDs. This one is well made, infact it is quite intelligent for a rock band. Roger, Jon Martin Birch (the 6th member) are the main speakers and give some good insights. All the songs are covered but for 'Lazy' and 'Maybe I'm a Leo' which are really missed. Ian Paice dosn't say much and Ritchie is a minstrel (He He) Though there is nothing really new the whole package is great there is good footage too, sadly none of the performances are complete except for 'Never Before' Worth buying

Machine Head, the best album recording ever made.
I enjoyed this awesome piece about the time when the greatest band recorded this masterpiece. Great interviews with everyone and the stories about the times they spend together recording, I watched it twice in the first week after I purchased it.

deep purple review
A great video for any one who ever liked the group Deep Purple and thought that Machine Head was an exceptional rock album. Honast interviews after much time has passed. Good insighst as to the deveopment of the songs as well as how they were recorded . Only real problem is that its only 45 min.long. I would like to have had more info. Obviously edited for a TV airing.

Max(Josh Walitt)works at his fathers funeral home and also attends high school, where he is bullied constantly and ignored by the teachers. He doesnt mind though, as he knows he's going to win the school science project. How? Well he can bring dead people and animals back to life thats how. He creates 'Machine Head' by stealing a corpse from his fathers mortuary, wiring it up to the computer and strapping a lawnmower engine to the side of the unfortunate corpse's head. Things start to go terribly wrong when 'Machine Head' starts to become very protective of Max. Okay this isnt perfect by any means. The acting is on the whole pretty bad, with the exception of Josh Walitt who gives a glorious O.T.T performance as mad Max. Most of the high school students look far too old to be in secondary education, and the whole thing looks like its been shot on someones home video. However, none of those things matter, as its funny, creative, and its a very fine example of how a bit of wit and imagination can overcome budgetary limitations. My favourite bits were when Max brings the neighbours dead cat back to life, and when Max and his creation hijack the Science awards presentation. It's no classic, but it's got plenty of class. 4 out of 5
