Expensive but very well done - worth it if you value simplicity and quality
My daughter says "Give it 5 stars!".It's very cute, well made, and has been working without problems for almost six months (she has taken good care of it).The bow tie pendulum is very creative and cute, and we also like the sound better than our electronic metronomes. I was hoping that the swinging action would help visual time better than the discrete beeps of an electronic metronome, but the jury's still out on that.A couple things to note: the mechanism itself is a bit smaller than an equivalent non-animal metronome, so it's missing a few of the marked settings (like 52 bpm) that a similarly sized traditional style mechanical metronome has. And, yes, obviously it's a bit of an extravagance compared to a smart phone app or a cheap metronome, and has fewer features. But, on the other hand, there's no smart phone to distract from practicing, and we prefer the simplicity.

Cute
The catronome is adorable but it was shipped with the product box being covered in packing tape. It looked awful. This was to be a gift but the box looked so bad I had to take out the cat and present it without the box.

This is a great quality, sturdy and beautiful German-made metronome that will ...
My son's piano teacher has exactly the same metronome. That's why we bought it after a cheaper version broke after just 1 day of use. Besides, the cheaper metronome was too fast. This is a great quality, sturdy and beautiful German-made metronome that will last many years. Just make sure your child doesn't play with the bow - it is an important piece.

Great metronome that's also cute.
Just adorable and works well. Looks so much better in person. I have a black ebony piano and it looks terrific on the top the piano...next to a photo of my cat LilyRose.

Good durable and sturdy piece
I bought this for my wife to use when she is practicing piano. I wrapped it and also put it on a shelf that I installed for her so I know it is a very sturdy piece. It looks even better in person than in the pictures. The quality of the finish was very high and the actual mechanics seem to be very good. I do not play piano so I cannot comment on that aspect of it but as a gift for a piano player it was better than expected. My wife loved it.

Can't compete with a metronome app
I have mixed feelings about this cat metronome, because it is a cute product and is good quality, but I found it more difficult to use than the Pro Metronome app on my iPhone. We've used the phone app for a couple of years, and you can adjust the speed and volume easily, along with setting it for different time signatures. I thought our kids would find an "old school" metronome fun to use, and I thought they'd really like the cat design. They like the cat design but don't like that they can't play with it, lest they bend the pendulum.Another drawback is that you should wind it only as much as you'll need for your current piano session; leaving it wound up but stationary is bad for the spring inside. That is probably true for all old fashioned metronomes - we are spoiled by what our smartphone apps can do for us! The fact that there is only one volume and I couldn't easily fine-tune the bpm while my kids played was irritating. I wanted to love the cat metronome, but just can't pass up the greater functionality and ease of use of a smartphone app.
