I see the edge is curved; does it curve up towards the handle, or down towards the pan? (I don't want to scratch my non-stick pans)

It looks like it's curved but it isn't- it's just straight- I don't ever press it flat to the pan because I'm pressing a pancake so the presser never touches the pan. I hope that helps.
