No, this wig is NOT for ponytails. There are no clips to hold the wig onto your head so if you plan on putting it up in a ponytail, expect it to fall off your head. It also doesn't look good up at all since the hair is sewn into the cap in a downwards angle and the hairline is unnatural looking.

its soft and does have nice play to it and fits well but it does have some shine to it and you will be able to tell its synthetic.

You can. It actually has just as much hair as you see in the picture. Was not expecting it to be as nice as it is, so that was a nice surprise to see that it really is that thick.
