Works well for handling animals
I bought these to be able to handle my cat while doing medical things with her (ear drops, etc) so that she couldn't scratch me (she *really* hates being messed with in any way). They work very well for this purpose, as they aren't too bulky but they're thick enough to where her claws can't penetrate as she tries to wiggle away from me. The only issue I have is the smell. The scent is extremely strong and not very pleasant, but I suppose that's normal for goat leather. For now, I am airing them out in my garage and hope the smell will dissipate. I will definitely use them in my garden, as well, when working with thorny plants. They were a little expensive, but not when you consider how well they're made and how long these should last when taken care of properly. Made in China (of course...we can't seem to make much here in the states). These are men's size L/XL and they fit my hands just fine (female with large hands), though they were just a little bit too big when brand-new. The measurement from the base of my palm to the tip of my middle finger is 7 1/4", the width of my palm at its widest point is 3 1/4", and the circumference of my palm is about 7 1/2". The fingers look a little short but they're actually long enough (and I have long fingers). They were a little loose on me at first but I got them wet while using them and they shrank a little and now fit snugly (but not too tight). Before I got them wet, they didn't fall off my hands (the buckle helps with that). They come all the way up to my elbows, which is perfect. I would highly recommend these to anyone working with animals that have claws and sharp teeth.

I fear Rose Bushes no more!
I dont write reviews, but I felt I had to this time. For years, I have had a dread and fear of trimming my wife's rose bush. It usually meant lots (I mean lots!) of pain. I discovered these gloves and thought I would give them a try. They are a dream! I trimmed the roses and did not get one single prick from the thorns on my hand and arms. The price I paid for these gloves was well worth the price as far as I am concerned. I can't vouch for their performance on any other job as I only have the rose bush. However, the rose bush was my nemesis and these gloves help me defeat it! The gloves were listed as extra large. I have small hands for a man, and the gloves fit my hand just fine with a little room left at the end of the fingers. If you're trimming rose bushes and fear thorns, these are the gloves for you.

Really nice gloves for working with thorny plants
When I ordered these gloves, I wasn't sure whether they were men's or women's sizes, because the listing on Amazon didn't say. They turned out to be men's, which is perfect for me.As it turns out, my wife also has a pair in a women's size. I searched for the women's size on Amazon (to try to help you), but couldn't find them. If you can find them, you will like them. These are really the nicest gardening gloves that I have seen for working with thorny plants. They are goatskin, which should resist thorns better than other leathers--although I haven't had a chance to test that yet. The leather is lovely and soft--almost too nice for gardening--but I think they will be durable too.The gauntlet comes all the way to my elbow. I really like that, because I am old and my skin scratches more easily than it used to. These gloves should protect me from anything short of a bullet. And the price is just a few dollars more than I would pay for a much inferior glove at a local store. A real bargain!

No more ugly bruises on my arms!
It seems that I had to search forever in Amazon's huge listing of gloves to find these. I am one of those lucky guys who is on some kind of blood thinner that makes me bruise easily. My forearms are usually a mess. But when I tried to find long gloves all I'd find were rubber (no way), and welding gloves (huge padding).I have no idea why these are called "Mud" -- is it the name of the maker? But these elegant gloves fit comfortably because they are made of a soft and strong hide, and the gauntlet part stays up on my forearm and lets me prune the worst and sharpest branches in ANY bush. I consider the price to be about half of what I'd have been willing to pay.

Good wood-cutting gloves
I bought these gloves for firewood cutting. My wrists and lower forearms are always getting scratched as I manhandle scrub oak trees, logs, and branches. The jury's still out on whether they'll be durable enough (wood cutting season is over for the year), otherwise I'd be tempted to give them five stars. The goatskin leather feels so soft and luxurious it's hard to imagine but Mud Gloves' description says they're tough. I like the strip of leather that reinforces the area where the thumb joins the glove. That's always been an area where my work gloves start to fall apart.I wore them yesterday clearing brush, including wild rose bushes. No thorns penetrated the gloves and my arms are scratch-free.Sizing runs a little small. I normally wear medium gloves and was tempted to buy size S/M but the L/XL fit well.

Bad pair or lesser quality than before?
I have used these gloves in the past and would swear by them. But something changed with this latest pair. From the beginning of use I could feel the rose thorns coming through and by the second hour of pruning there were large tears in the fingers. I don't know if the overall quality of the gloves has change or if this is a bad pair, but they are useless.

but they held up far worse than $10 HD/Lowe's gloves that I was using before ...
Bought these to protect my arms from poison oak while clearing land and simultaneously building a wire fence around a couple acres of property. The gauntlet leather is strong and abrasion resistant, but the white leather glove part got torn to shreds almost immediately. It's very thin leather, if it's even real leather or at all. I realize these aren't fence building gloves, but they held up far worse than $10 HD/Lowe's gloves that I was using before trying these out. If you are doing simple gardening then these are fine, but I would not recommend for any brush/tree removal or anything involving moving large pieces of metal or wood.
