Will it soften a cowhide rug, which got stiff after washed? The backing is suede. Does your oil has a strong smell? Thank you

Neatsfoot oil is great for color/conditioning Veg Tan skirting, but I would not recommend for suede or cowhide with the hair on. With a lining of any kind, it will be difficult to impossible to condition the Cowhide. A suede conditioner can be used on it to soften it some. Without removing the swede there is no good way I know of to condition the cowhide. A method I heard of for conditioning/softening the cowhide is to have a couple pieces of 4x4 by 3-4 inches long, and stuff the hide and blocks into an "OLD, not important to you Dryer", and turn it on to tumble. The blocks of wood roll around over the hide, and soften up the fibers. Archaic, and tough on dryers, I know.

how do ypu use this product

I use a spray bottle most of the time and rub it it my boots, leather belts, leather bags, bridle reins, leather halters and saddle. Anything leather. It’s really good stuff.
