Much Better Than I Expected
I'm currently reading through all of Valiant's stuff. I picked up this hardcover because I didn't think I'd care much for a comic book based on Voodoo mythos and I just needed an intro on Darque for the new Book of Death series starting next month. While the story had a lot of common super hero elements (which I'll leave out for no spoilers) and not many surprises (save for issues 0/10), it was put together in a way I found rather enjoyable. I'll definitely be finishing the series now.

A Light Package
Re-printing Shadowman #0-10, this Deluxe Edition measures roughly 75% the size of previous Valiant Deluxe Editions. While there are several more issues and a mini-series published, Valiant only put 11 total issues into this book, undoubtedly saving the remaining issues to cobble together a second volume. The result is a volume book-ended by two of the greatest issues Valiant produced: Shadowman #0 and #10. The rest of the series, in my opinion, was lackluster. The larger format is nice, and the overall package fits well with the other Deluxe Editions Valiant has published to date, albeit thinner on content. The art for the books go from GORGEOUS to just so-so, but nothing about it stands out as awful. It's hard to recommend this volume to anyone who isn't a die-hard Valiant collector. Perhaps if you're a big fan of this Shadowman or have heard good things about the series you'll find some value here, but for those of us who have not enjoyed the book the slim offerings are a second reason not to bother.

dark heroe
I was a fan of the original Shadowman so I had to check out this series, the first half of the book has great art while the second part is not bad but not as good as the first. The concept is very inspired by the originalseries but different enough to grab my interest. Overall if you like supernatural superheroe stuff you should give this book a try in the deluxe format to appreciate the art better.

Starts well and then falls off a cliff
Shadowman started off very strong and then fell off the rails just as quickly. The Louisiana supernatural scene was very interesting and Shadowman seems like he could have a backstory with legs. The antagonists to start the series were fun and intriguing. Then towards the middle of the book, everything changes. Its hard to tell why things matter, the villains are nowhere to be found, and Jack's gets no character development. The last third sees a change in creators and a tonal shift as well. I'm not sure why the changes were made or why the editors think this collection makes sense. The art is really good and Shadowman looks awesome. Overall, a giant ball of confusion that couldn't keep the interest levels up.

The weakest of Valiant's relaunch, but still better than most!
Easily the weakest of Valiant's 2012 relaunch, nevertheless this is still a brilliant comic. Exquisite artwork, a fun, action-packed story and a hefty dose of demons and voodoo occultism
