First off, the book is beautiful. Each recipe is accompanied with a full color, full page picture of the finished product. The contents cross numerous ethnic cuisines and stays true to it's title of "comfort food". While there are many familiar recipes you think of as american comfort food it has some that will allow you to stretch beyond our borders and try something new. The Chicken Tikka Masala was the first recipe I made from the book. It got the thumbs up from the family in the "would you want me to cook this again" category. I hate to say it but my tried and true BH&G recipe for Chicken Paprikash has been sidelined for the one in this book. Having a number mediterrenean cookbooks I have not been able to find a Hummus recipe that I cared for, the one in this book is so simple and delicious, I have finally found one. Other recipes we have tried ... Mushroom & Herb Crostini is simple and refreshing ... the Italian-Style Meatballs with Tomato Ragu, while a bit more intensive on the preperation side, was another crowd pleaser. I have many cookbooks but can't say I have one that I go back to time and again to find something new to prepare. I'll pull some meat or poultry out of the freezer and then grab this book to see what I can make with it. Review: YUMMY, YUM, YUM - I love cooking and I'm so glad I added this book to my library. Talk about mouthwatering. The first recipe, The Ultimate Grilled Cheese Sandwich, was so absolutely easy, but what made it different for me because I've never used anything but cheddar for a grilled cheese, was this one called for grated comte cheese and recommended Jarlsberg, Fontina or Gruyere as a sub. I love gruyere and never tried it on a grilled cheese sammy. I ran to DiBruno Brothers day one of receiving the book. Unfortunately, they didn't have comte, so I got my fav Gruyere, no more cheddar for my GCS, its strickly gruyere on sourdough for now on. My husband begs me on weekends to make this sandwich. Another recipe is the Herbed Tomato Tart, YUP easy, quick and absolutely delicious recipe. A new fav for me is the Tuscan-Style Kale Soup, goes great with The Ultimate Grilled Cheese sammy. Then there's the Mac and Cheese with Ham (eyes rolling back in my head delicious). This book has every Ethnic groups favorite comfort food. Indonesian Chicken Curry was so easy I've made it twice since I got this book. Sweet and Spicy Korean Fried Chicken is my sister's favorite. This book takes you around the world to experience delicious easy recipes. Tons of pictures too, easy to follow instructions, I"M SO NOT DISAPPOINTED. Other recipes I've tried: Patty Melt, Roast Pork Loin, and the cover shot, Potatoes Gratin, I used fingerling potatoes from Whole Foods. They even take you through A World of Butter. My husband already picked Thanksgiving dessert (our standard Sweet Potato Poone will have company with the Dulce de Leche Cake with Spiced Wine), he wrote out the menu already - I love him and I love this book. Spain, Thailand, Korea, Italy, France, and the good ole USA, comfort food is where its at and this book is definitely a keeper.

Comfort food standards from iconic locations and places
Interesting comfort food, from a variety of countries, mostly Euro-centric recipes, though appealing. From Saveur magazine, so interesting text and recipes.

Fabulous Cookbook!
Saveur: The New Comfort Cookbook is worth every cent I paid for it. It is an internatioal cornucopia of gastronomic delights. I have added Indian, Korean and Thai dishes to my repetoire. The Chicken Paprikash is a dish that my friends ask me to fix for them every time they come to my home. I broke out the Ricotta & Roasted Pepper Frittata New Year's morning for the the family and it was a huge hit. Christmas dinner featured a new twist to my annual Christmas Ham, which was already a family favorite. I used this book's Pineapple Chipotle Glazed Ham. My husband loved it, and several of my relatives asked me for the recipe. There are several pasta seafood dishes that are just so addictive that I fix them at least once a week, usually Monday night when I need to put something great together without a huge amount of prep time. The cookbook is filled with beautiful color pictures. The book has an authentic, earthy feel to it and the food is beautiful comfort food which your children will probably wax about nostalgically when they speak of your meals to family and friends 25 years from now. The recipes in this book will definitely be used by you. The recipes are easy to follow. The ingredients are easy to obtain from your local supermarket or from your own pantry if you have a decently-stocked pantry. I'm thrilled with this cookbook and I look forward to the next cookbook from Saveur. Definitely a five star purchase.

Saveur New American Comfort Food
I was one of the first people to buy this book. I liked this book a lot, until I go to one of the recipes "Thai Hot and Sour Shrimp Soup" One of the ingredients greatly offend me "12 fresh or frozen Kaffir lime leaves" I wrote to the author of the book James Oseland asking him to at least find another name alternative for the name of the ingredient. I did not get a reply and this saddened me , but however amazon.com sent me a comforting message about the issue when I voiced my concern. That is one of the things I love about this amazing company. I gave the book three stars because the rest of the book and recipes are good. All but one are amazing.

Love the Traditional, easy recipes
Short and to the point book. Tried and true recipes I have tried over and over plus new recipes to challenge my culinary skills. I particularly liked the Baked Ziti, and the Vegetarian Lasagna. Both feed my family and a few guests. Highly recommend

This book is everything I could have hoped for and wanted from a cookbook! I've had it for about 2 weeks and have already cooked 8 of the dishes included in it! The recipes are easy to follow and absolutely delicious. The photography is gorgeous and everything I've cooked so far has tasted finger lickin' good! This book might not be for everyone though, especially those looking for more common and everyday recipes. Some of the dishes included can be pretty time-consuming (such as the beef empanadas), but for those who enjoy cooking and have a passion for trying out different kinds of foods, this book will be perfect. I plan on making all the recipes in this book over time!

ein Buch, das nicht nur Rezepte sondern auch Hintergrundinfo's liefert, ganz wie die Zeitschrift Saveur. Eine echte Empfehlung für Kochbegeisterte

Better than most US cookbooks in that it does not slavishly measure everything by cups, but too many recipes need US ingredients not obtainable in UK. For examples at random - Catfish - Red Snapper - Masa Harina - Smoked Pork Shoulder. Some of the recipes are for big numbers - 8, 10,12, using items like 28oz cans of tomatoes, these can largely be scaled down but several have long cooking times, which I feel is contrary to today's trend for speed, and busy working adults. I would also suggest there are far too many pictures not directly related to the dishes.

I saw this book at Chapters but found it to be quite expensive so I thought I would check Amazon to see if I could get a better price and I sure did. It was classified as second hand but it looked brand new to me. I am very pleased with my purchase. The recipes look great. The illustrations are beautiful and the recipes are ones that I look forward to trying. I leave it on my coffee table for guests to flip through as well.

Classic Oseland compilation of foods deemed classic comfort and some that just inspire the concept of comfort. It would take about 5 of the Best Recipes of... from Cooks Illustrated to provide this concise summary.
