IC3 Certification is way beyond my definition of literacy
I guess I thought computer literacy meant being able to handle the fundamental tasks on a computer: On and off, create Word, PPT, and XL documents, manage files and folders, send and receive e-mails and attachments, use the various ports, work with a browser including downloading and installing new applications, understand the fundamentals of memory, disk storage (HDD, SSD, internal, external, flash), monitors, processor types, number of cores, virus scanners, modems, routers, ethernet, and wifi. This book goes waaaaaaayyyy beyond that. All I wanted was to get my daughter squared away to live in the modern world. The book will not be useful to me because it is severe overkill. I hoped she'd be able to just read it, work with the computer, and get it. Nope, it won't work for her. Now if you want 10X what I just summarized, this is the book for you or your child. It also needs a refresh. The book refers you to a website for updated MS Office resources online, but its OS info centers on Windows 8. BTW, I liked Windows 8 on my tablet but hated it on my desktop.Even though this book is useless for me, I gave it 4 stars because it is a well written, well illustrated, comprehensive course. Still, to me, "literacy" means you can read and write: it's about very basic skills. If that's what you're looking for, look elsewhere. Some of my problem is of my own making. Obviously, I didn't understand the requirements for IC3 certification. With the exception of being a bit out of date, this book is probably very good for that.

Good book for a starter or novice!
Computer Literacy BASICS: A Comprehensive Guide to IC3 5th EditionMy fiancée needed this book for a class that she in taking in her new career studies. They sold this book for over 100 dollars at her local school bookstore and I figured that was ridiculous!! So we turned to what amazons foundations is….BOOKS!!We decided to rent this book because it was cheaper and she nor will I even need this book again! The book arrived very quickly and in pristine shape!!! There were no makings, bend edges, or pages! This is a really useful book of you’ve been out of high school for a while of if you’re not too familiar with computers and how to use simple applications. I looked at the book and it’s well written with plenty of helpful instructions and ideas. However, for someone who is fresh out of high school or is modern, this book is going to be boring and most likely you already know about most of the information in this book.Overall its good and easy to use and follow I would recommend to a beginner but not like a really old person lol.Bring your computer literacy course back to the BASICS. COMPUTER LITERACY BASICS: A COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO IC3 provides an introduction to computer concepts and skills, which maps to the newest Computing Core Certification (IC3) standards. Designed with new learners in mind, this text covers Computing Fundamentals, Key Applications, and Living Online - everything students need to pass the IC3 exam, and finish the course as confident computer users.

The cover was torn up, dirty, and had duct tape on it. Pages were loose inside the book, and someone left their tabs inside.
