Does this punch the hole as well in the material as crimp the rivet? Does it have enough leverage to crimp standard size 3/8" brass grommets?

Yes this product save me. I had to put in about 150 grommets in heavy canvas. I was able to do it while standing next to the fabric vertical as well as laying it flat. Punches a clean hole.It’s a great system!

Will the grommets rust?

They most definitely rust. They are "silver" not stainless. Not appropriate for outdoor use. I had to remake my tarp after a rain. Get marine grade stainless steel.

Are the grommets and washers rustproof and stainless steel? (if I add them as decoration to clothes and wash them will they rust?)

I used them on flag bunting. They have been out in the weather many days and none show any rust.

Will this work on flags?

It will work, but if the fabric is thick, it may not cut all the way through, so you may end up having to manually cut bits of the fabric away. If it is a very thick border, you may want to cut the holes first, then apply the grommet, otherwise you will likely waste a grommet trying to cut through the thickness and end up having to manually cut the fabric out anyway. I have used it on linen type fabrics as well as Velcro and various other materials.
