Property Management Accounting: A Survival Guide for Non-Accountants

I found the book confusing. I'm a smart person with multiple degrees, but I found the whole debit/credit explanation counter-intuitive. If this is in fact what dual-entry accounting is, then I'm screwed, because what makes sense to me is one column for amounts, with positive numbers for cash going in, and negative numbers for cash going out. Period. It doesn't need to be more complicated than that.

This book has 82 pages. In the beginning of the book there is an explanation of Accrual Accounting vs. Cash Accounting, and it mentions that most Property Management companies use Cash Accounting. However, even though the Author mentions that most Property Management Companies use Cash Accounting - the majority of the book is based off Accrual Accounting (from page 30 to the end of the book).

This is a good basic building blocks book on accounting and book keeping. It does in fact cover both Cash and Accrual methods, unlike how the other poster claims. This mostly just covers the underlying credits and debits that happen behind the scenes in most software. You should follow this book up with something more in depth, but this a good clean start. Also, its independent of the software the author sells, so the concepts apply with any software you use.I took away a star because it would be helpful to see the effect on the 3 main reports (income, balance sheet, and cashflow) after the example activities.

This is actually very informative. It's a quick read. If you are already knowledgable on Accounting basics, I recommend this.

A good basic book, I feel that they could incorporate more information.
