Content is good - but this is hard read
The writer gives good information (this subject is not for the faint of hearts). But the information is somehow "coded" - not said directly and you need to infer it from the text which really sucks, I actually need to do a lot of thinking in this book that seems that the author already knows but forgot that you are the reader do not know it.For example, the author gives a very simple learning example and then a very complex conclusion from this example. So I didn't understand how the conclusion is related to this simple example. Only after I did on paper 4 stages of the example and made it complex, only then I could see how the conclusion represents this example.

The best book by one of the best minds of the western world.
Actually this is a collection of essays spanning Bateson's career, but still his magnum opus. Here you will find the details of the Double-Bind that first appeared in medical journals which you won't want to track down. And a whole lot of other widely ranging, though-provoking gems of genius. The Metalogues with his young daughter Mary Catherine are brilliant. She was so impacted by these that she became a genius in her own right, and wrote another of my favorite books "Our Own Metaphor". In addition, my large paperback was in like-new condition so thanks!

tough intellectual love for those of us who least want it
This collection of essays maps the intellectual biography of one of Anglo-America's brighter stars of the second half of the 20th century. An anthropologist, psychiatrist, cyberneticist, and epistemologist, (to name only the primary traditional disciplines informing Bateson's mind), the thinking is crisp, direct, demanding, and about as good an introduction to the later works as we might expect. The Theory of the Double Bind in invaluable, and its history began with Bateson and his research colleagues. This book is a must for one who wishes to grasp the early convergences of the social sciences, the natural sciences, cybernetics, and analytical philosophy into what has become, arguably, the most forceful and relentless body of thought guiding the more promising of late modern social theory's innovations as well as climatology and ecological sciences.

Well Maintained
This came earlier than expected! Plus it was in such good condition. Such a great book on epistemology of cybernetics!

This work invites us to see with "other eyes" the living universe
Thanks to the multidisciplinary background of Gregory Bateson, his work invites us to see with "other eyes" issues regarding learning, evolution, culture, ..., ourselves and the whole of Creation.

Historically Valuable
These collected essays are a useful path into the deep thinking of Bateson. Biological sciences have certainly expanded on and outgrown many of his ideas, yet this book still provides value from an historical perspective of fundamental challenges of biology of mind.

Cheap print-on-demand copy
This is not the original book. Amazon produces its own print-on-demand copies without stating this in the description. Cheap paper that's too white, too thin and bleeding through.
