Our Daughter's First LEGO Friends Set and Now She's Hooked!
Our daughter loves Lego Friends. She first saw them at a friends house and was instantly obsessed with them. She was a little young at the time at 5 years old, but we decided to purchase this set for her for Christmas and it was a big hit. She did really well with it because of the simple to follow instructions. Since then, we have continued to purchase sets to add to her collection. The LEGO Friends Olivia's Tree House Set comes with 191 pieces. It includes the Olivia character. It is a really cool tree house with lots of neat looking leaves and a strong structure. Once it is put together, it is surprisingly sturdy. Included in the set are two animals (a cat and a bird) and several accessories such as a fish and bowl for the cat to eat, lots of flowers, butterflies and ladybugs to put all over, a telescope, and a bird house. It is a really nice set with a lot of pieces to let your child's imagination run wild. The instructions are very detailed and easy to follow for a child. The recommended age is 6-12, but a 5 year old will only need minimal help with it. One point of caution. I have found that the average per piece price of the LEGO Friends sets are around 10 cents per piece. That is the going rate from WalMart/Target or when Amazon is the seller. Some secondary Amazon retailers sell the Friends sets for much more. We purchased this set from Amazon for just under $20. Make sure to shop around if the current price is higher than that on Amazon. Long story short, this is a great first set for your child to get her interested in LEGO Friends or a great addition to your LEGO Friends collection. Highly Recommended!

Great for parent and child activity.
I helped my five year old put together the tree house. We had fun taking turns putting the pieces together. When it was completed, my daughter played with the characters. I was afraid that this toy would not be age appropriate, but I'm glad to say she enjoys this toy very much. I am a fan of Lego. This is a great toy for little girls (or boys - my son likes the animals and the fact that his sister built a tree house) who are ready to transition from the large Lego pieces to the little Legos.

7-year-old daughter loves LEGO Friends!
My seven-year-old daughter enjoys playing with Legos but it has been difficult to find a series that really engaged her attention as she is quite a girly girl and enjoys fantasy play revolving around dolls. Many of the Lego series seem catered more to boys, and some of the gender neutral sets are a bit more complex for her - we worked on the townhome once and she lost interest after a while because she found it complicated, even with my help (and I ended up working on it!). Well, I came across this Lego Friends series while browsing online and it seemed like a neat idea for young girls to develop an interest in Legos. My daughter loved it, and she actually persevered and worked on it last night for about an hour, until she completed the entire tree house and bird house! She loves the little Olivia Lego doll that comes with this set and has been asking for more! I am definitely getting her more from this series because it has not only engaged her attention, but also increased her patience and level of concentration as she worked on it. It is also a great toy for building hand-eye coordination and developing one's imagination. The bricks come in small plastic bags labelled 1 and 2 and there is a full-color instruction booklet that provides step-by-step instructions. To avoid losing the pieces, I placed them in small plastic containers found at home and labelled them so that it was easy for my daughter to work on the set. A recommended toy for young girls interested in Legos.

cute, but not on par with regular LEGOs
why don't they just use regular legos???? They are close, but not quite the same. The 'snap' factor is just not as good as regular legos. On the bricks they are ok, but for the specialty blocks, they can't quite snap the same way, some are much looser. I'd love to see more 'girly' legos, but i do expect the same quality as other Legos. Needs some improvements.

Unhappy customer
I was disappointed with the condition of the box. The toy looked like it was opened and returned. It was ripped and a piece of the tape was missing from the box. The condition of the package was unacceptable. How could anyone send a package out in this condition. I needed this toy for a birthday party that is tommorow and I am extremely upset because now I have to go out and shop for another toy for the little girl.

A wonderful new Lego joy
Lego has long retreated into a land where only boys are allowed. A few gender neutral toys existed, but not many. I was a Tom Boy and happily played with Star Wars Legos, but my daughter is not, and was having a Lego-free childhood, due to the lack of appeal to her. That *goodness* Lego has turned this trend around! I'm all for gender equality, but there's nothing wrong with a girl getting to enjoy play that she would enjoy in real life, and who doesn't love the idea of having one's own fancy tree-house. My 7 year old daughter, with no previous Lego set experience, picked it up and with only a few minutes of guidance spent an hour or more assembling the set with focus and enjoyment. The result was a detailed and adorable play set. It's small (look at the dimensions to make sure you have a good expectation) but the biggest plus is, it has not only provided the initial play value of assembly, but she has come back to it, in combination with other sets to enjoy pretend play and imaginative play. This set is wonderful and very popular with all the girls in her first grade class. Thank you Lego!

Compare Prices!
This is currently selling for $68?? Really?! I bought it from Amazon for $19, same exact model, so do price shop before paying such an outrageous amount. As for the set, it is easy to build, with clear and concise directions. My child had no problem putting the tree house together. She didn't play with it as much as the Legos that don't come with a blueprint and allow for full creativity to build whatever your mind can imagine. I think she prefers the creating aspect more than the playing aspect.

Another Lego success!
I bought this for my daughter to give to a friend for her birthday. I was hesitant, since I didn't know how much the birthday girl liked building things. I needn't have worried. Her eyes just lit up when she opened it. The set is "medium" in size. Children will likely need some help getting everything set up to get building, but after that, will likely not need too much help doing the actual building. The colors of the set make for some engaging discussions on the relative merits of design over realism, and my daughter and her friend had a great time trying to mix and match elements for the silliest misdesign. The smallest pieces are a recipe for getting lost, but Lego has considered that and thoughtfully provides duplicates of the smallest bits "just in case". As usual, the instruction booklet is clear and makes the process required to get the "correct" (my daughter argues this point) result easy. Easy enough that I think Lego should bid on doing "some assembly required" instructions for other companies! I like the fact that Lego is trying to expand their market to include those kids who aren't as interested in the typical Lego systems. I have seen an improvement in my daughter's spacial recognition and task focus since she started building Lego sets. Is that because of Legos or because she's getting older? Who cares! She loves her (& now her friend's) Legos.
