disappointing in some ways ok in others
Most of the sites for my area are the typical DEEP sites everybody already knows about-- and some of his info conflicts with DEEP info. For example, he states Babcock Pond is 147 acres and DEEP claims the lake area is 119 acres--a difference of 28 acres! Seriously, the street address up front vs weeding through 5-10 lines of directions would be great--now a days everyone has GPS. Some of his maps and descriptions very superficially identify swamp areas for some locations but don't suggest how much of it is not paddleable! This is something I'd like to know before driving any distance to find the paddleable area is significantly smaller than the overall acreage listed! He goes on and on about plant species, but leaves out important information that would be helpful to rec paddlers. I also felt that the author was not very familiar with some of the destinations he wrote about. For example, he tells readers about the two large beaver lodges which can be easily seen from the middle of Bishop Swamp, but he did not tell readers about the crazy big beaver dam! No kidding it could block a road and it is as tall as I am! But you can't see it from the launch or middle of the pond. He must not have paddled around the entire pond or his book is outdated--because he left out the biggest attraction after fishing for this location! Some of the information I would expect from an AMC rec kayaking guide is missing! It seems to be ok for launch info and very obvious and general info but it lacks important details!

Great reference book for finding new kayaking adventures in "Quiet Waters"
Very good guide and information for kayakers who are looking for new lakes or slow moving rivers, along with maps, descriptions and estimated time of trips. We live in CT, and were planning a trip to historical area in MA . We planned our trip in the Concord area, which has some nice Kayaking areas, from the Sudbury River, near North Bridge, as well as Walden Pond. There are also some lakes in our own CT, that we were unfamiliar with, which we plan to visit, (with our kayaks, of course)

A wonderful update!
This new edition has added additional paddling areas, updated information on all areas creating a better paddling guide for local waters. It is a must for paddlers who want to get out and about without wasting time. It is more inclusive of kayaks, that I as a canoeist find inclusive to us as "paddlers" with mutual interest. It can surprise one with what is available to paddle locally and gets you out more, which is a must for me.
