One Mother of a Board++++++++++
I have been picking away all year accumulating parts to build this i7-4790k killer computer. Did make me a little nervous ordering parts that sat around for more months past the time I could return faulty items for free return through Amazon. So far so good though. Within the last month a finally ordered the Windows 10pro disc from Amazon, and crossed my fingers with the machine starting up and loading win10 in the time it took me get coffee from the kitchen and return for a surprisingly NOT lengthy process of minutes. Is that i7 or the win10 or both, WOW!! Most all the negative reviews for Windows were upgrade victims writing non-verified purchase Amazon reviews. How is a system that loaded in minutes bad? Here's my system before I get into a more lengthy review. Everything worked out of the box without any extra tweaking or even bios delving.1. i7-4790k Intel processor LGA11502. The i7-860 computer was all purchased here on Amazon and this one too. I started buying the parts 6-7 months ago. I put all the parts on the computer several months ago and thought a friend of mine had a deal on win10. Well that didn't happen. Several weeks ago I ordered the win 10pro disc from Amazon and the entire system booted and flew out the gate. The only glitch I encountered was remedied by removing an older DVD drive, older cables(dummy!), some mobo spacers to fix an under or oversized stand-off issue, and more RAM. Pick one for the solution, because it runs perfect now. Was sometimes not restarting with a black screen, which I chalked up to poor cables or static buildup. Sometimes I run into a problem because, like my parents, they were hoarders, and I keep old stuff, when in fact, I should toss it. You don't spend $1500 on quality parts and then try to save $1 by employing ancient parts. The Belkin 2.0 USB was the only oldie that survived and may go later.I really would have liked to purchase an Intel board, but they do not make Extreme mobos anymore, only processors. My other Intel board has Bluetooth and an IR unit that is wonderful. That said, this Gigabyte board is great. The bios are spectacular. This is the first time I have seen UEFi bios and they are very cool looking and user friendly. Makes my i7-860 bios look like Fischer Price bios. Many tweaks to be had. Want to overclock, just set the dbl. click on what ever percent you want the machine to run. Simple. Motherboard has plenty of USB3.0s and 2.0s. I also miss not having an eSata attachment like my old i7-860 board. I'm sure if I spent another one hundred on this mobo, I might have picked all those extras I like.The computer did not have the Nvdia video when I loaded the win10. Gigabyte board comes with onboard sound and video(VGA,HDMI,DVI). This next part blew me away. I got the computer up and running on my Samsung HDTV and my 5k Canon photos were popping on the screen brightly. WOW, the onboard video surpassed everything I've ever seen from onboard usual dullness. The next test was even more wowwing. My i7-860 Intel computer plays the new Tomb Raider game great on normal to high, forget ultimate, won't do it. I loaded up TR on Steam to try out the Intel Graphics. I was not hoping for much. The onboard Intel Graphics ran TR on normal and I was needless to say, shocked. Once I connected the GTX960 Windforce(had to remove the the plate for the upper HD drive bays for it to fit. A two fan GTX960 would not require this maneuver) TR ran on ultimate with ease.I'm only into the first month of running and I love it. I am looking forward to testing out some usb3.0 transfer speeds now that I have a 3.0 computer and have always had some WD 3.0 2tb Passport drives, a Sabrent usb3.0 HD portable case, and Sata III drives that all may function better in the new environment.I read this in another review when I was researching things months ago and noticed that the motherboard does not fit perfectly into the Coolermaster Scout 2 case. This did not deter me from purchasing. What that means, the right edge of the board that gets the most downward pressure from RAM, power cabling, and Satas, is unsupported from the bottom edge of the board. The standoffs do not go to the bottom right edge of the motherboard for underneath support. Not sure if that is a Scout 2 problem or a Giga problem. This is the only semi negative I can even remotely come up with. Not a biggy.The board comes with the latest bios F8. All the drivers on the disc may be older versions. So I went directly to the website and downloaded all the new windows 10 drivers for the motherboard.Update: 2024-04-16, After MS updated this build many times since 2015 when I started putting this together, it finally crashed on me. The audio somewhere along the line got so corrupted after a recent update, none of three options for sound would fly. Took out the NVME Samsung 1tb, put in an older Samsung 970 SSD, and the NVME is now a second drive in my much faster Alienware laptop, and reloaded the old 2015 Win 10 all over again. Took the better part of a week to determine it needed reloading and actually doing it. I thought I could get away with a few less updates, but Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom would not run at all, and several other important features. I updated to the next build 19045 and it runs perfect again. Actually, better than perfect. Previously, I mentioned adding a sound card, and Creative makes the best. I never could get all the features of the X-fi Titanium to run, until reloading the computer. All the sound enhancements are there. Whenever I updated it I turned on the EQ system so the update knew it was there. Nowhere is anyone saying this is possible BTW. You want the best sound possible, Creative X-fi Titanium, and then get some good headphones for ear popping sound. Onboard sound has never been great.As for games, it has a little trouble running a newer game. Death Stranding and Call of Duty WW2 had it struggling at times. As for Tomb Raider the performance test had it peaking at 60frames running all settings on Ultra. This same test on my 2021 Alienware laptop yielded a peak of 120fps, for TR1 BTW. It is also running a 3060gtx tho. For a 2015 build, it is still a great computer. Parts for these are very cheap now. Something else I learned, load all of your games on an external drive, and you have instant play whenever you reload your computer.

Dead after a Year
Purchased in June 2023. Worked perfect. Then about a week ago it died. Took all other componenets out, tested them on a donar board. They all worked as they should. Put everything back in, checked, double checkd and triple checked all connections. Still doesnt work. Board is stuck in a power cycle, on for 15 seconds off for 3 and continues just like that. Called MFG, gave them the model and SN, they told me its out of warranty because it was manufactured in 2015! I purchased this through Amazons third party vendor in 2023.... but it was purchased 8 years before and sold as "new"? Amazon couldnt help either due to their return policy only being 60 days. Nor does the vendor have any kind of contact information or customer service number just an address in China. So now I'm stuck with a dead board and no way of getting it repaird or replaced even though it should have a 3 year manufacture warranty on it...

Another Great Board from Gigabyte.
My previous board lost a Sata channel after almost 4 years and I didn't feel like having to buy a new processor, board, and memory in order to get the latest technology. All I wanted was my system up and running again so I just replaced the motherboard with this one and it is working great. It came with the latest non-beta BIOS (F9) version, and I didn't have to do anything to get it up and running once I popped it into my case and hooked everything up. I am running Windows 10 and because I am still using the same processor, Microsoft didn't complain that this was a new system.Interestingly though, my Norton Internet Security saw this as a new machine and I had to log into my account and enable this one even though it was already enabled under the same name with the old board as I was using the same boot drive.I like the layout and everything works good and I have had several Gigabyte boards in the past that never missed a beat until I stopped using them simply because I was upgrading to newer technology. The sound is very good and like that it has two PS/2 style connections for both the keyboard and mouse as sometimes when you have problems with a system your keyboard/mouse might not be working if they're USB as they drivers for them may not have been loaded yet. That's not an issue with this board as they're loaded from the BIOS at boot and the mouse is working in the BIOS. I'm expecting that this should give me a number of year's service until my next major upgrade as I am skipping 1151 since it doesn't offer enough added punch to warrant needing to get a new board, processor, and memory. What I have now works well without any noticeable delays and is very stable which counts a lot with me.I did notice the heatsink on the long end would rock a bit, but it is solidly connected and it is moving only because its mounted by screw pins with suspension springs which give it a bit of wiggle. I have zero issues with heat so I know it is doing its job.Even though this is listed as an ATX board, a couple of the mounting holes were not in the standard place and I had to move a couple of the stays to accommodate it, but its a sturdy PCB so its in there solid and isn't bending while I am plugging in power, cpu, gpu, or memory.
