How to transform trauma
In this book the author explores how to deal with the inevitable realities of moments in our lives when we feel depression, sadness, loss, betrayal and other emotions. He shares that rather than trying to always be happy we should strive for meaning and provides some useful perspectives via Jungian psychology on how a person might do this. It’s another excellent book by this author.

Turn trauma or any emotional pain into a growing experience
At a very low point in my life; my therapist advised I should read this book. It was very helpful on guiding me through an amazingly emotional journey, an emotional cleanse of the mindAfter reading it; I took advantage of the power of grief, grief is too often feared versus embraced, I use this book as a text which I reference often. I've given away copies to those whom I feel can use it.

Fabulous Read in these unsettling times: Swamplands of the Sul -- New Life in Mismal Places
As a reader of many books, "Swamplands of the Soul" - New Life in Dismal Places" is one of the most profound books I have every read. It's more than self-help and deeply helpful. Like many changes transpiring in our world reflecting paradigm shifts, the author introduces a paradigm shift as he debunks psychological maladies as permanent and long-term unless when ignored. The author, James Hollis makes emotional experiences easily to understand, explore and allows readers to find their own mental state in plain sight. Highly recommended to anyone on a path of growth, expansion, development, getting to know one's self and explore new ideas. Loved it and have recommended it to many others.

Wonderful
I've ready most of James Hollis' books and this is one of the best. After you read several of his books there are some repetitive parts - but it's always, always, worth a second read. I found this book a huge comfort in understanding the everyday difficulties of simply being and functioning as a human being. I'm eternally grateful to Mr. Hollis for all his work and insight.

Thought Provoking Jungian Book Dealing with Human Difficulties
I am enjoying reading this book, despite the darkness of the subject matter. It focuses a great deal on acceptance of our common human condition, which includes suffering in a variety of ways. The book has a spiritual undertone and James Hollis has managed to discuss many difficult subjects in a way which anyone (even people who are not religious in an orthodox way) can accept. I find that I can only read it in short spurts...a chapter at a time....because each chapter is truly thought provoking and needs to be "digested" before moving on. I have already recommended it to a number of people and praise the author for the eloquence of his writing, the references he makes to various philosophers and psychologists, and the general feeling that he truly wants to help and support his readers through the difficult human journey called "LIFE".

Reads like a novel
You don't have to know or understand Jung to read this book but Hollis does an excellent job at weaving in Jung's psychology throughout the chapters. I love the non-pathological approach. Hollis is smart, wise and kind. Thank you for this beautiful and thoughtfull book.

The journey to find and understand your true Self
If you are serious to look into your Self and can accept the challenge to delve deep and not be discouraged you must read the last chapter first. If you don't like what you read you may not be ready yet to undertake the journey. The longer one waits to undertake the journey the less time you may have to find liberation.

A master piece for anyone that needs to heal the soul.
Swamplands of the Soul is a magnificent book that hands a powerful torch to the reader to descend into his/her dark areas and to be brave enough to support the horrendous anxiety and fear of facing the demons that live in the underground of our psiquis and eat the pleasure and real meaning of life.I am at the moment going throght a swampland and thank to this book I have been able to carry on doing the taks that my soul is asking me to do in order to set myself free of my fear of being alone and feeling abandoned. The book has operated like a magical master talking to my ear and reminding me how important is to be responsible with myself and not to run away falling in another relationship. My taks is to heal my soul and this book is the manual to every reader to do that. Highly recommended to every person that want to take responsibility of his/her own misery.
