Pocket Dubai 3 (Lonely Planet Pocket Guides) Paperback – September 27, 2012

My wife and I used this book when we went to Dubai for 5 days. The book has a fold-able map along with clearly marked areas in Dubai. The book specifies what the top tourist attractions are and has a lot of pictures so that you can see what the attraction looks like before you plan on seeing it. The book is small enough to fit in your pocket but has a lot of content to make sure you are aware of the different areas of Dubai and the top attractions in those areas.

I ordered this book the week before I was scheduled to go to Dubai. It arrived in plenty of time for me to read through and find the places I wanted to tour while there. It had a pretty good pull-out map, as well as smaller local maps in each chapter section. The small size fit perfectly in my purse and was inconspicuous to refer to while out. The specific restaurants, galleries, stores, etc were hard to find, and not exactly as represented. For example, I went to the Jumeirah Mosque, which did charge a small entry fee, though the book said it was free. It was very well worth the small charge though, informative and interesting. The book recommended an art museum across from the Mosque, which turned out to be a small sales gallery with about 3 rooms in a strip mall, with none of the artists the book mentioned. They did have some local Iranian art which was very interesting, so it wasn't a total waste of time, but it wasn't as big a deal as I expected. Info about transportation was accurate, as well as info on the various souks.It was a good book to have, as I was a female touring the city alone, it helped me feel confident in where I was going.

This was a great little reference book - I did add a couple of notes to what was already in the book. Really handy as I carried this in my handbag - light and easily pulled out for reference.

Much like the other Lonely Planet pocket guides. Typical.

Used the Kindle version on my smartphone (I didn't have a tablet with me) for a 3 day trip recently. It was helpful to cover many of the well known and some not so well known attractions. I was surprised I got so much out of the book, given that I was using it on a smartphone. For a pocket guide, there is plenty of information on the attractions. We did not put all the restaurant information to use, the couple that we tried were fine. I would have liked more choices on vendors for specific activities such as Desert Safari and the Dhow cruise, but I suppose that may be the difference between a pocket guide and the longer version.I found the navigation on the Kindle version to be adequate. I'd click through a few links and then would go back to the Table of Contents to reset my bearings. I think this is to be expected when trying to use such a book on a smartphone.

It's great. But now a bit out of date. It's from 2012. So the metro lines on the map arent accurate (the city is growing rapidly), and there were a few other things out of date.

I know this is a pocket guide, but you have a few information of the top sights that I wish. You'll need to search for more.

We were in Dubai for just 2 days and this compact book had lots of useful information, including a recommendation for a nice walk from the Dubai Museum. Very useful little book.
