Re-live all the action and mystery from the very beginning
First of all, to clarify any confusion, this is the Starter Set for the FIRST SEASON of Case Closed - this box contains Volume 1, which contains episodes 001-009, as well as a one-of-a-kind Wall Scroll and Keychain."Case Closed" - or as it is known in Japan, "Detective Conan" - originally aired on US Television in May of 2004 (the series premiered in Japan in January 1996). Placed on the "Action" line-up of Cartoon Network's "Adult Swim", the show received mixed reviews - mystery fans were in love, while others claimed the show wasn't "mature enough". By August, 49 episodes had been aired - and later, the next 30 episodes were released on DVD. Those episodes never aired, as Case Closed vanished from US Television altogether by 2005.Now, fans will be able to re-live all the excitement and ponder over all the mysteries once again, as the first three seasons are released on DVD. Those new to the series will finally be able to discover the reason why Jimmy Kudo became Conan Edogawa, as well as receive a general intro to the series. With a new mystery in every episode (some extended into 2-part thrillers), mystery fans will rejoice at this Anime, which constantly boggles the mind and challenges intuition. The series also boasts a charming and enjoyable cast - such as the "great" Detective Richard Moore (Mori Kogoro in the Japanese version), his young Karate-master daughter Rachel (Ran) who also serves as Jimmy's love interest, and of course, everyone's favorite detective, Jimmy Kudo - who has the misfortune of being shrunk into the body of a child after being administered a strange drug by two criminals. This Anime is a terrific treat for the young adventurer/puzzle-solver in any family - but most of the content is not reccomended for children under Age 13. But as some may be surprised, Case Closed isn't as childish as it may seem - Teenagers as well as Young Adults may very well enjoy the series, which contains many of the complex and sentimental emotions which all teenagers experience - except not many can say they were stuck in the body of a 9-year-old when they were!"Case Closed", which is currently entering its tenth year on Japanese Television (episode 426 aired on January 16th, 2006) has spawned 9 movies, several OAVs, and is perhaps the closest competitor to America's "The Simpsons" in terms of national TV dominance by an animated series. Plenty of reason to at least try the series - or at least, that's what this Reviewer thinks.

I accidentally purchased this on my PS3. It's rather entertaining. It has the charms of childishness without an excessive amount of it's annoyances. Also, for some reason I find it soothing after a day's work and a few beers.

Great series
I like Case Closed/Detective Conan it is a great series that is almost as old as I am and I've been watching it since I think 5th grade and it is still going strong with new seasons and movies coming out every year. It used to be my absolute favorite show when I was in school to the point I would wake up at 5 AM to watch it then go back to bed for a while before waking up for school. If you are planning to watch everything this series has to offer know going in you need a massive time commitment, but it is a very solid series if you enjoy the murder mystery genre. Why 4 stars and not 5? So one of the things I like about the series is that aside from the drug turning a grownup into a child it is for the most part realistic. What isn't realistic is how much time would have actually passed and how the characters and story ignore that. Even if each case was only 1 day it would have been YEARS from the start of the series to the current point and it still isn't finished. Also, the crime rate would be astronomical. The main character Jimmy/Sinchi would have flunked out of school for being missing so long. Conan wouldn't be able to get into a school as he doesn't have any official government documents/parents/guardians (they do acknowledge this when he has to go out of the country at one point). No one would actually allow a little kid near all those crime scenes. No one notices the main characters disappearance. Yes, he keeps telling Rachel/Ran that he is working on a case, but as he went from being in the newspaper constantly to vanishing completely people would notice. These are the major issue I have with the series I can let some slide, but the biggest gripe for me is ignoring the time entirely. Another big issue is that for the massive number of episodes and movies there has been very little actual story progress over the years. Don't get me wrong I love the series, but like 95% of it or more is pure filler. At this point, I just want to see the ending I'm fine if they keep making fillers after I'll keep watching as long as they keep making them, but It's been over 20 years the stories are getting repetitive or methods so complicated I don't care to try to understand them anymore. At this point, I'd like an ending or at least shift to move the plot forward.Overall it's a great series if you enjoy murder mysteries, but know going in there is no ending in site and it will take a MASSIVE amount of time to go through everything currently out. I know following an elementary school looking child around can be a turn off for people, but it also creates new challenges for him in the story especially in the early seasons before he has his gadgets and established a reputation for helping solve cases.
