Here's whistling at you, kid - but use a hot pad.
April, 2020- The whistle has not been working for quite a while now. Even if I fill it up high. I think it's got something to do with the fact that the steam can escape through the spout, and the pressure just won't get high enough. I sure wish it still worked. But, I'll keep the kettle. It still does what it needs to do- heat up water for coffee- and I just polished it up with Never Dull Magic Wadding Polish. It looks nice, and it's the right size for me.Here's my take on the whistling controversy - I just made my first pot of coffee this morning. I filled it up past the holes that feed water into the spout. It was more water than I needed, but I wanted to follow instructions. I put the top on and pushed it down to snap it into place. It heated up and started boiling in a reasonable amount of time. It started whistling loudly, with a two-tone, loud, but not unpleasant sound. It had been heating up long enough to make the handle too hot to pick it up with. I'd had the gas burner on full-blast, so this didn't surprise me. I poured out the water into my coffee container to let it steep. There was still a fair amount of water in it, so I decided to put it back on the flame and see if it whistled with a smaller amount of water. The cover on the spout is a small, hinged cover that's held in place by gravity. I figured that the steam pressure would vent up the spout, and stop the whistle from happening. As it started boiling, I noticed steam coming out the spout, but then after a few seconds, the whistle went off, quieter, and without the distinctive notes I'd heard before, but it was there. So, I think the two things needed for a loud and distinctive whistle are: Fill it up past the spout-holes, and push the lid on tightly. And use a hot pad to pick it up.I make a large, 20 ounce glass of coffee in the morning, and make it last through the day. This pot is just the right size for my needs. It looks good, seems to be very sturdy, and it works well, from my first use of it. If anything needs reporting in the future, I'll come back and let you know.

Cute but...
This tea kettle is cute but it doesn't whistle! I have to set a timer to remind me to turn it off.

Unique Kettle Sounds Like a Car Horn As Its Water Boils!
I love the look of this old-fashioned, glossy tin tea kettle! And I find it, pleasantly odd (smile). I just got it today. So I did what other folks wrote in their reviews. I removed the brewer thingy from it, since I only wanted boiling water for a cup of hot tea. I filled this kettle to its highest inside hole, to make sure it would whistle. Then I returned to my tv program. I heard a car horn moments later. And I briefly asked myself, "Why is someone pressing a car horn outside?" Then I remembered that review about this kettle sounding more like a horn than a whistle (smile)! Yeah, it sounds ENTIRELY like a horn, if you ask me! It's not an annoying, honky city horn. Just a "normal" car horn sound, that comes from, a "whistling" tea kettle. I like it too much to say it's a reject. I prefer to call it, my odd, distinguishable, stovetop addition (smile).

Tea for two
I was looking for an everyday tea kettle to use once I finish our kitchen remodel. I bought this in advance knowing that I wouldn't be able to use it for some time. I was going to just put it up with the rest of the things I've been storing away. But I'm impatient and have a strange compulsive urge to open every box right away. (Somehow I always feel like it's Christmas morning when I get to rip into the box in two seconds flat. Hey, it's the little things in life. Right?!) Speaking of little this tea kettle is the definition of little. It's not at all like I expected and of course that's on me for not reading the description better. So I'm not going to dock points because this airhead of mine didn't pay attention. However, I did find that the lid wouldn't fully close and it wasn't packaged very well. That's why I knocked off a star. It had a very nice shine and I loved the overall design. That's why I'm keeping it to put on a shelf above the mounted fireplace we are putting in the kitchen. I figured some cooking books, tea cups and this little tea kettle will make great decorations to go with our new theme. In simple terms here's my opinion. If you want just one big mug of tea or two small ones this is perfect for you. It is so small you wouldn't have to worry about it cluttering your stove. If you are like myself and have a monster size thirst this is way too small keep looking. If you want this for a family bigger than two, company or if you drag down that ten pound beer mug and fill it with your preferred flavor.. (Yes, I said beer mug. Yes... I have so many issues.) This isn't big enough especially for the price. I guess you could always just refill it and keep making batches if need be. But I'm lazy and thirsty so this is for decoration only.

Moths...
Disappointed. We have used several times in the past. It is a great activity. However this time we have found three moths inside the box when opening it. My daughter is now having nightmares about moths, great experience...

Like it.
This is really good fun. My daughter enjoyed sticking the Playmais together when she was younger.
