Amazing book a must have for any home inspector from beginner to advanced.
Being a home inspection business owner I can say that this book is great. Real world examples and explanations, color photos and it is a great training, learning and review book. This book is written in a very good straight forward manner and the constant reference to real world inspections is very helpful. The color images are complimented with excellent drawing and illustrations which help to bring concepts home. Our business we regularly include illustrations in our reports to help clients understand concepts about defects we find, so seeing this used in this book is great. In conclusion no matter what size your inspection company is this book is a great resource. You are sure to learn more and also it is a great tool by giving you clear examples to how to explain things to your clients.

Very useful, but needs a glossary of terms and larger illustrations. (Kindle edition)
My high rating is based on the sheer thoroughness of this book. I did not buy this book to become a home inspector, but rather to help me buy rental properties in the future. If I want to inspect a property myself, I am way smarter about it now and I've got a reference to consult. At least I can have more intelligent conversations with the home inspectors I may hire in the future. My two problems with this book were the terminology and the illustrations. The author should have included a dictionary of terms that matched the thoroughness of the subject matter. There are places where jargon terms are explained, and places where they are not. I am a retired computer geek seeking to invest in rental properties, and I needed as many defined terms as possible, not a hit-and-miss approach. It never hurts to over-communicate. Also, the illustrations are tiny, and where they are explanatory diagrams they are unreadable and essentially useless. But I discovered something about illustrations in Kindle books (this one at least). If I double clicked left and single clicked right in rapid succession, the illustrations enlarged and became readable! So, it did pay off after all to be a computer geek for so much of my past life.

This is a great book for the new inspector as well as the ...
I am a home inspector. This is a great book for the new inspector as well as the more seasoned. It is full of practical advice. Spot on tips on where to find the most common issues, recognizing issues and just a bunch of practical advice. This book was written my Michael Litchfield and Roger Robinson. Unfortunately, Roger passed away before the book published. Roger was a LEGEND in the inspection profession. He won the two highest awards in the profession - the John Daly Award from the California Real Estate Inspection Association (CREIA) and the Philip Monahon Award from the America Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI). Roger is one of only five individuals to win both awards. Roger spent countless hours helping new and not so new inspectors learn the craft. He was a very special person. This book is a great legacy. I think this will be required reading for inspectors for many years to come. If you are serious about being a home inspector - you need this book in your library.

Well written
Ive been taking home inspection courses in the state of Illinois, and this book is a good piece of side information, with additional methods that may not be covered in a prelicensing course. Only negative to this book is that the author has a LOT of hands on experience and time in the field, so he is comfortable removing/detaching/disassembling a few units/structures that generally is taught in a course NOT TO TOUCH. So while this book is informational and helpful, it can also teach some practices that may not be suitable for the average inspector. Be a cautious reader, and you will benefit!

There is something called Internet
Kudos for having glossy paper and color pictures. I remember some of the older books were on cheap paper and in black and white. Otherwise the book is dated and not that comphrensive Please use the internet. There are other books out there. Structural systems and Business (National Home Inspector Examination) is a better book. However if I was an inspector and wanted to have an inspector library this might be included but I would rely on other material for reference info.

Thorough book
Good book with a lot of great information. Some of it isn’t really relevant to the rest of the country, being written by a guy in California, but still worth reading.

It's a very informative book but there's also some outdated information that has not been used for many years. At least not in Canada.
