Easy to use and clean, built to last
I almost gave this 3 stars because with the lid on my chickens were not eating the food. Then I watched them for a while and saw that the lid was not the problem, my chickens were either just too lazy, or too stupid to eat through it. Their beaks easily fit through the openings, they just didn't want to reach in and get the food...so mostly lazy I guess. This product is super easy to clean, seems built to last, though metal may hold up better in the Florida sun. I like the plastic better though because there are no sharp edges, and the lid pops open instead of sliding. The metal ones slide open and it can be a pain in the neck. Plus I keep the food trays in the coop, so sun is not an issue.I plan on upgrading to a hanging feeder soon though, because I have thirty chickens and when full grown these trays will not hold enough food. They are perfect for chicks and for small flocks of 10 or so.Highly recommend this for ease of use and ease of cleaning.

Third feeder purchased over the last several years
The second two, including this one were slightly different than the first. New models have better hinge design and construction. No one sells anything like this where I live and it's lite and doesn't cost much to ship. These are good for chicks up to one month or less depending on the breed. As they get older their heads don't exactly fit. They can get to the food but not as easy. To provide a LARGER opening, cut out every other divider on ONE SIDE of the feeder then sand using a wheel/drum on a drill to "smooth" and "neaten" the cuts. AVOID SHARP edges. Both sides could be cut. Later the chicks are moved to their permanent "coop - run" and a regular feeder is used.

Nice, colors are fun
We have a lot of chicks, often. We have used every kind of feeder. The long metal ones like this are sturdier, but once someone puts a knee down on it, it bends and the sliding top then threatens to cut you every time you refill the food and (carefully) slide it back on. Granted this one would probably break when it gets kneeled upon, but the flip up lid and zero lacerations are nice. It's worth noting that the lid does not lock securely for long. The little pegs that go into the holes to keep it closed are not sturdy at all, but we haven't had any chicken chick, turkey chick, or duckling open it so it doesn't seem like a problem if you know the top is loose before you pick it up and spill it.

Works great, wish I had bought more
As title says, I wish I had gotten more. The biggest downside to any feeder is chicks love to either A.) scratch their food out onto the floor of their brooder or B.) kick bedding into the feeder. They will still do it with this and they will still climb on top of it and take a poop. That being said it is easy to clean and if you set it on a 2x4 or another taller platform it makes it harder for them to kick anything in. They can still knock food out, but placing it higher means they knock it out with either tiny beaks instead of their feet. Some days you just can't win, but their cuteness makes up for the mess.

Well made and easy to clean
The media could not be loaded. This is the first time we’re raising chicks but I really like this feeder. It’s bigger than I expected and more than my eight chicks need but it works great! Easy to clean and fill with feed. I thought the chicks would have trouble eating from it but at a day old they took right to it.

great little duckling feeders
using these for ducklings and they have worked well for the first few weeks of their life. some of the crevices (especially around the hinges) are harder to clean, but a little soaking in water helps quite a bit. the little "knobbies" that hold the top shut, do start to wear a little bit and do not hold the top closed as strongly as when new, but it hasn't been a problem.
